I don't know if this has been posted yet; certainly not in its own thread.
Really good article by the man everyone loves to hate -- but he's right!

I've just read this too. Excellent article and manages to cover so much. I'm also pleased at the photo of RM on the podium being included, sometimes a picture speaks a thousand words.

OvaHere · 04/03/2019 15:35

Very good article. Although pretty much anyone in the country could point out why it's a terrible idea bar a few insufferable wokesters.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 04/03/2019 15:35

Far from allying oursewlves with the Far Right this just shows that it doesn't matter what your political bent, your innate prejudices, your personal peccadiloes, BIOLOGY IS BIOLOGY!

AlbertWinestein · 04/03/2019 15:36

I read that and it made me smile. Probably the first time ever Piers Morgan and the Feminism Board of MN agree!

andyoldlabour · 04/03/2019 15:36

Great article by Piers, and I normally disagree with the guy most of the time.
One of the athletes pictured in that article could well play at the 2020 Olympics - Tiffany Abreu of Brazil. It should be noted that the women's volleyball net is 2.24 metres high and the mens net 2.43 metres high.

Bluestitch · 04/03/2019 15:39

Curious I saw an excellent response to accusations of 'aligning with the far right' by Oliver Burkeman:

'The Theory of Ben Shapiro Relativity: If you stake out a sufficiently preposterous position on some topic, I may end up being on the same side as Ben Shapiro in considering your position preposterous. This will not be because I am "aligning" with the right.'

I thought that was spot on and can definitely be applied to ludicrousy such as this.

truthisarevolutionaryact · 04/03/2019 15:42

That's a good article and so important to have high profile men and women speaking alongside all the fantastic work that's been done by women's groups.

1.3k shares already.

I just caught this - it's a really good article and much as I generally loathe Piers he's dead right in that piece.

Bowlofbabelfish · 04/03/2019 17:18

Not only is he dead right, he’s written it in a very plain style which few columnists would be allowed to. Note the total absence of minced words, or euphemisms. As always, the DM picture editor is on form ;)

2020 Olympics are going to be very interesting.

Singlenotsingle · 04/03/2019 17:25

He always talks sense, and I usually agree with him (not always!)

Kerning · 04/03/2019 17:27

Don't know if I've ever agreed with him but on this he is dead right. One of the BTL comments cracked me up: "I'm finding I agree with Piers more and more. What is happening?" Smile

MillytantForceit · 04/03/2019 17:33

To be fair to Piers Morgan

(Yes, even him!)

He took a stand againt the gun lobby in the USA which cost him his job.

As Mirror editor, he ditched the topless models and thought there should be less sleb goss and more actual news.

...He also faked the picture of a bloke wearing a T-Shirt with "Iraq" written in English on it being abused by two blokes dressed as Britsh squaddies.

To be fair.

Popchyk · 04/03/2019 17:43

He has covered a lot of ground there.

Clever to concentrate on two women in one sport - Serena and Martina. Both very popular with the public and tennis is popular in this country. It puts the human faces onto the issue.

Morgan shows exactly what would happen if men are allowed to switch to women's tennis. Lays it all out there. Easy process for the man (and of course he can choose to identify as male again after his tennis career); devastation for the women.

Morgan then links to other instances in other sports (cycling, athletics and volleyball) where biological males are already winning women's titles, so it blows the "miniscule minority" and "would never happen" stuff out the water.

Ends with his support for Martina for talking sense. He's publicly supporting a lesbian so that will head off a bit of the LGBT backlash. A lot of lesbians (the female sort) will agree with him.

Over 800 comments. And 2.4K shares.

Kerning · 04/03/2019 17:54

Very balanced of you Millytant Wink. I see there was a discussion about this issue on GMB this morning too, there's a separate thread.

It does feel like the tide is turning, on sports participation at least.

teawamutu · 04/03/2019 18:04

V heartening comments, too. The ones disagreeing with him are mostly just traditional sexists, and the few screeching transphobia are getting their arses handed to them.

Governments listen to the DM. I don't like that, but it's true. Articles like this, with a storm of supportive comments, will be listened to in the way the Grauniad never will.

WaddIelikeapenguin · 04/03/2019 18:40

MillytantForceitGrin

That’s a fantastically clearly written article

goldopals · 05/03/2019 08:54

I was pleasantly surprised to see this article on the DM of all places and found the comments to be very interesting. He did seem less obnoxious and much more reasonable than normal
