Was just reading this on Huffpost and was struck by this line quoted from the Lingerie creator Carmen Liu.

"But trying on the first complete pair made the hard graft worth it, she says. “I got really emotional just to feel like a woman finally,"

I thought the whole point of being a transwoman was that you ALWAYS felt like a woman! You have the inner brain, feelings and sparkle of a woman, that you were born in the wrong body, not the wrong knickers!

Women come in a huge variety of shapes and sizes, shopping can be a total pain the arse for the majority of us. Ask anyone shorter/taller/fatter/thinner than the norm!

And even other differences in shape too - length of trunk (pita for some women getting swimming costumes), breadth of shoulders, breast size/shape, thigh width, curvature of spine, ribcage size, pelvis shape and rotation, waist, calf thickness, arm width, etc, etc, etc. It's all made worse because women's clothes are all designed to fit us snugly - so getting stuff off the peg is just ridiculous unless you happen to be an extremely rare body-type woman that pattern cutters have in their minds.

Well exactly.
As a 34G I can't wear any "high street" bras either so it's not just TW who are not catered for.

OrchidInTheSun · 02/03/2019 15:11

The bras are designed for women who are starting HRT apparently. When I started HRT, I carried on wearing the same bras.

Oh, but that's not what is meant is it? It's not fucking hormone replacement if you never had the hormones in the first place AngryAngryAngry

I mean, on the one hand, I love wearing lingerie and think everyone should have the ability no matter their genitalia. I feel sad that men's choices are so boring.

But this isn't helping... This is the opposite of inclusivity. This is saying only women have these things so let's rename parts of you to fit better in our woman box. Ugh.

LetsSplashMummy · 02/03/2019 15:26

So it seems that if you make period pants, you have to market them at "people who menstruate," but if you make penis tucking pants you can market them to "all women."

My sympathy lies with people trying to teach marketing to people for whom English is a second language... can you even imagine where to start?!

Lamaha · 02/03/2019 15:28

I wear big cotton knickers and an old bra. Putting them on doesn't make e suddenly feel like a woman. Changing to frilly lacy lingerie won't make me feel more like a woman.
I AM a woman and that's all I have to say! I don't need accessories of any kind to enhance that fact.
I guess I need lessons from a man in lingerie as to how to woman??? Grin Hmm Confused

InionEile · 02/03/2019 15:45

Exactly, Hamster. Men dressing in women’s underwear is a common enough kink - so where do they draw the line? Is this underwear for exploring a kink or for ‘all women’? I think they must add this ‘all women’ stuff to make the kinksters feel like they’re wearing a mainstream product that ‘any woman’ would wear. In reality the market for actual real transwomen who need to tuck must be pretty small - so it’s really a product for men.

But we know if they say it’s a product aimed at men, those with a fetish for it won’t want it. The entire point of the fantasy is to wear ‘women’s underwear’.

The subterfuge and double speak in this area is so tiresome. Just admit you’re into what you’re into sexually and accept yourself instead of simpering and burbling on about lady feelz and emotions.

It does strike me more and more that a lot of this TRA activism comes from men who are ashamed of their sexuality and projecting that shame and anger onto women - an ancient male tradition of course. Calling women whores because of their own shame about sex, calling women TERFS because they know they are just autogynephiles and are ashamed of it.

Tonsilss · 02/03/2019 15:46

So a woman is anyone who wears frilly pa ts...

I think these are fantastic products and good on that transwoman for designing and marketing them. My only problem is the marketing saying women and girls when it means transwomen. Fix that wording and I'd not be in the slightest bit bothered.

RockyFlintstone · 02/03/2019 19:18

Yes, good point!

I have to say, I feel most 'like a woman' when I am wearing my massive, black, panty linered 'period pants'.

It's not the product people are objecting to, it's the narrative that putting them on will make you feel 'like a real woman'.

BickerinBrattle · 02/03/2019 19:38

I suppose it’s a sign of something or other that I immediately wondered if these fabrics are machine washable. Males, I’ve found, are pretty shit with different fabric requirements. And now I’m hoping it’s not a women who’ll be required to do the laundry.

OlennasWimple · 02/03/2019 19:41

Well, they are BU for using the term "panty"

HexagonalBattenburg · 02/03/2019 19:46

For the true feeling like a woman feeling you need to be rocking a bra where the underwiring escapes and tries to stab you in the chest 10 times before lunch. Add in crotch itch from the ridiculously increasingly prevalent scented sanitary towels and you'll be there in no time.

I bet that's given a few lurking AGP's some inspiration.

I'll bet... "ooh my laydee crotch is getting laydee itches - these scented 'panty liners' are such a bother...."

Yossarian22 · 03/03/2019 12:29

Y fronts - this is what y fronts are, knickers with a space for male genitalia. So this is a lingerie company selling lacy y fronts for men with a kink or maybe they think women will use it as a handy storage compartment since no one can be arsed to design jackets with inner zips for us?
Might get a bit awkward at the checkouts ..... think I’ll stick with my jeans pockets.

Sam2112 · 03/03/2019 12:56

world gone mad - part 3561, part i.

Utter nonsense - we used to call men who wore such stuff .. "SISSIES"
Now society sees them as women and design underwear to appease their belief of being "female"

Bras for using HRT? No No No - it is not HRT - it is for men who are taking estrogen to grow man boobs - it is appeasing a mental delusion -

Please will society please STOP this insanity

Mothers need to educate their kids that this is not what being a women is...

Teachers need to educate kids that NO ONE IS BORN IN WRONG BODY.

please make this stop - is it a bad dream ?
