It's just on now so I'm not sure if that link works well.

Gwen Asdhead, a psychiatrist, on her life's work supporting the rehabilitation of violent offenders.

She comments that far fewer women are violent offenders, they mostly offend against partners and family members; it's very rare to offend against a stranger.

Thanks for this, I've downloaded to listen to later. There was some interesting stuff in Dr Robert Sapolsky's book Behave about the effects of testosterone basically saying that it promoted high status behaviour rather than violence per se - it was because (some) men perceived that violence gave them status that the problem occurs. In other cases men saw high status behaviour as that which might get them a CEO position, it depended on their viewpoint and I guess social standing. I thought this was fascinating as it makes it a social problem rather than a biological one.

We have another fan thread on the go - will put it hear to join with you.

There were lots of interesting details on today's programme, and the series as a whole is a fascinating insight into what is going on in society for those of us not in the community (with lots of women on it too Grin )

Melroses · 26/02/2019 10:57

Sorry, "society" should read "science". I think there was some dodgy autocorrecting going on there.

NeurotrashWarrior · 26/02/2019 11:09

What's going on with the bbc?!

There's now a (I feel) relevant prog on toxic masculinity on air now.

There was someone who appeared on This Morning a few years ago who was male, transitioned, changed their mind, then was going back to transitioning. I was perplexed as to how much skin was available for plastic surgery and what sorts of results you would expect but they didn't go into that much detail.
