For your third place result in the Connecticut State Indoor Championships.
Well done that girl.

How how how is this being allowed?

MsTSwift · 25/02/2019 07:56

She is the winner. Why is anti discrimination all in one direction what about girls being discriminated against they can never win against these lads

Bebstar123 · 25/02/2019 07:58

Her name didn't even make it into the original news report

Cheating fuckers. I'm so angry.

FamilyOfAliens · 25/02/2019 08:02

That heart-breaking sentence from one of the female competitors, “We all know the outcome of the race before it even starts; it’s demoralizing“.

Makes me furious - I can’t begin to understand how it makes them feel.

Iused2BanOptimist · 25/02/2019 08:18

Yearwood is hoping to qualify for this year’s National Scholastic Athletics Foundation national championships in March. The group recently adopted new rules allowing pre-pubescent girls to participate with their affirmed gender, though no ages are specified. Post-pubescent transgender girls must have completed sex-reassignment surgery and “a sufficient amount of time must have passed” after the operation or hormone therapy “to minimize gender-related competitive advantages.”

Does this mean Yearwood will take the medical route to compete at these championships? Not much time until March. Or is it a matter of calling a lawyer and challenging the rules?

AssassinatedBeauty · 25/02/2019 09:23

I'd congratulate Chelsea Mitchell for her persistence and not being put off by the forgone conclusion. Well done to her for sticking at it and being the best female runner in her event in Connecticut.

CallMeSirShotsFired · 25/02/2019 09:28

One of their competitors, Selina Soule, says the issue is about fairness on the track with wider implications. The Glastonbury High School junior finished eighth in the 55, missing out on qualifying for the New England regionals by two spots.

So two cheaters took a spot from a rightful qualifier. Disgusting.

terfsandwich · 25/02/2019 10:40

Has there ever been a woman called Terry before? It's not a girl's name, is it?

So not even a name change? Just "I am a woman"?

Congratulations Chelsea on your win.

feelingverylazytoday · 25/02/2019 10:47

Has there ever been a woman called Terry before? Quite a few I would think. It's kind of a unisex name, often a short version of Theresa, though some people might prefer to spell it with an I instead of a Y.

NotBadConsidering · 25/02/2019 10:47

Link not working, which is weird. I had the page already open from another thread and refreshed it and that’s gone too.

I find it interesting that Andraya Yearwood tends to be the focus of these stories. Terry Miller seems to keep their head down and not talk about it which could be taken a number of ways.

ToeToToe · 25/02/2019 10:55

www.washingtontimes.com/news/2019/feb/24/terry-miller-andraya-yearwood-transgender-sprinter/

Here's the link. It makes me furious.

BettyDuMonde · 25/02/2019 10:56

Yearwood is currently 17 so definitely post-puberty. Can’t envisage how Yearwood intends to comply with the National Scholastic rules - perhaps an attempt to change them is already underway behind the scenes?

I certainly wouldn’t want young trans people to feel forced into sex reassignment surgery before the age of majority (and equally Male-bodied people shouldn’t be in sports competitions for girls). 😬

FemalePersonator · 25/02/2019 11:37

So two cheaters took a spot from a rightful qualifier. Disgusting.

Agreed.

And well done, Chelsea. I am sorry that you lost to cheaters. You ran a good ran and so did the girls who came fourth and fifth.

failingatlife · 25/02/2019 11:41

This has made me so angry this morning I had to tweet that articleAngry
So demoralising for the girls. We should all get on twitter congratulating Chelsea for her win. Because she is the winner. Cheats should never be enabled. It is disgraceful and I am so shocked and surprised at those falling over themselves to justify blatant cheating in sport.

Vixxxy · 25/02/2019 11:46

One of their competitors, Selina Soule, says the issue is about fairness on the track with wider implications. The Glastonbury High School junior finished eighth in the 55, missing out on qualifying for the New England regionals by two spots.

Thats shocking..really shocking.

Congrats on 1st place Chelsea. Sorry these boys stole it from you.

OvaHere · 25/02/2019 11:48

This is so appalling. There isn't even any pretence of transition here to hang the vaguest of argument on. This is just two teenage boys pissing all over a girls race and achievements. Just bottom of the barrel systemic abuse of females.

BettyDuMonde · 25/02/2019 17:57

A poster on Reddit GC made this graph. It plots Yearwood and Miller’s times against the boys and girls categories.

Congratulation Chelsea Mitchell
BuffetLurker · 25/02/2019 18:03

At some point, presumably, they will have to revoke the new ‘records’, on the basis they are essentially unbeatable?

Iused2BanOptimist · 25/02/2019 18:08

Thanks Betty

A simple graph like that speaks volumes.

anickelstory · 25/02/2019 18:11

The ridiculousness of this:
National Scholastic Athletics Foundation national championships in March.

Is that pre-pubescent transgender girls are the same as pre-pubescent actual girls.
the differences in physique and physical strength and hormones happens during puberty

AssassinatedBeauty · 25/02/2019 18:12

So Miller and Yearwood are mediocre against the male field....

OlennasWimple · 25/02/2019 18:59

McKinnon is frantically tweeting about this at the moment. Apparently it's completley fair, and anyone complaining about it is a bigot who hates children Hmm

beeyourself · 25/02/2019 19:46

This has peak-transed me all over again - WHO THE FUCK DO THEY THINK THEY ARE?

Lamaha · 25/02/2019 19:51

Remember too that in the USA competitions like this are a vital step for some women to get university scholarships. They might literally be taking away the education of girls. Changing lives. Must be very bitter for girls who missed their chance.
