Good.

In a meeting on Tuesday, the King’s College Council unanimously decided against a motion proposed jointly by the King’s College Student Union (KCSU) Vice President and LGBT+ officer to fly the trans flag at the end of LGBT history month on the 28th February.

Excellent, in view of the fact that the trans extremists are aiming at the erasure of lesbians and forcing them to accept partners with “lady dicks” - they should definitely not be humoured by flag flying during LGB month of all times.

Knicknackpaddyflak · 23/02/2019 16:04

For us it was a symbol of solidarity, not a political statement. We were looking beyond politics to a make a statement that said everyone was accepted

Except, of course, female homosexuals. And people who use dictionary definitions. And that appalling person who keeps protesting outside the college referencing biology. And the millions who agree with her. Oh and definitely not the people who moan about safeguarding of children doing drag acts in gay clubs where people are having sex. And definitely not anyone who thinks teenaged girls are allowed to be embarrassed or want to get undressed away from the sight of males. And absolutely not those oiks who think women in prison have the right to not be leered at, share showers with rapists or sexually assaulted. And definitely not Martina Navratilova. Or any Sunday Times, Telegraph or Daily Mail, or Spectator or Private Eye readers.

Everyone apart from them.

FlyingOink · 23/02/2019 16:05

There are so many flags now it's ridiculous. What is the point of them?

silentcrow · 23/02/2019 16:17

What is the point of them?

Branding. Nobody's allowed to be anonymous anymore.

UnrelentingFruitScoffer · 23/02/2019 16:19

This thread is mental. I understand none of this.

WeRiseUp · 23/02/2019 16:20

Thank fuck for that.

Authoritarian symbolism billowing in the wind? No thanks.

FlyingOink · 23/02/2019 16:26

Branding. Nobody's allowed to be anonymous anymore.
It's just pure Tumblr isn't it? It's quite childish, do adults need an identity flag to rally behind? Especially a new one with zero history?
Do they pick the colours by committee?

ChattyLion · 23/02/2019 16:28

Good on you then King’s College Cambridge.

The trans flag is part of a controversial political dogma or a religious belief system about which there is a substantial clash of rights. i’m fairly sure they won’t be flying any others of those type of flags any time soon either.

(This is different from flying the LGB rainbow flag which isn’t an ideology (but a sexual orientation) and which is making no more declaration than that of equal rights, and is a rights movement which absolutely isn’t taking away any rights from anyone else.)

And shout out to the awesome brave woman who protests against the erasure of women with her placard outside King’s College at weekends too. Flowers

Bluestitch · 23/02/2019 16:31

The motion stated that the transgender flag should be flown by the college above the Gibb’s building to “raise awareness of this [the transgender] section of the LGBT community, often one that is overlooked or less well recognized in society”.

Blimey could have fooled me.

MillytantForceit · 23/02/2019 16:43

I thought the whole point of the Rainbow Flag was that it was inclusive of everyone?

ChattyLion · 23/02/2019 17:04

originally it was a flag for gay and lesbian liberation.

Homestar · 23/02/2019 17:07

Who are the King’s College Council?

Demographically, I mean, not as individuals. Are they students, or academics, or something like a board of trustees?

Homestar · 23/02/2019 17:15

KCSU is actively putting all our power into solving this issue

🙄

Also I have to say I always hated the trans flag even before I peaked. Pink and blue, how can they possibly claim they’re not all about gender stereotypes when even their flag is a celebration of gender stereotypes?

silentcrow · 23/02/2019 17:40

FlyingOink it's tribalism to the max. Everyone does it to some extent as a child - football colours, boy bands and the like - my DD just spent yet another £20 in Claire's on black nail varnish and godawful chokers to show she's not "one of the populars", whatever that means (tbf she makes a beautiful goth). Hell, even I wear my various sports club hoodies with pride, and I'm one of those reverse snobs that refuses to wear logos Grin. This lot, though...the phrase "über alles" springs to mind. It's never enough to show your own allegiance. It has to be over and above everyone else.

Homestar agreed, I always found it insipid and a bizarre choice of colours. I recoil at that pairing now.

On a different note, The college was also worried that the motion was ‘reactive’ against recent anti-transgender protests around King’s, including one protestor who frequently protests on King’s Parade holding banners referencing biological sex. According to the vice-president, the council did not want to take part in action that could potentially provoke those protesting.

Is that our very own ManicMagpie? Good on you, if so!

ErrolTheDragon · 23/02/2019 17:43

I think that piece is probably misreporting pro-women's rights protests as 'anti trans'.
@ManiacMagpie might care to comment...

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 23/02/2019 17:44

Good.

This is a gross misrepresentation of manicmagpie who has been regularly making herself available for civilised informed discussion:
