What the fuck? So maybe a purple bar too?

Italiangreyhound · 19/02/2019 17:20

Actually it looks very tasty and now I want some. I am female but to be honest I would eat either colour!

reallyanotherone · 19/02/2019 17:22

Eh?

So you buy a bar of coconut ice, and the bar inside the wrapper might be pink or blue.

I get that these colours usually have gendered connotations, but how does a bar of coconut ice have a gender?! It’s just a colour.

If a boy unwrapps a pink bar then what’s the problem?

I have more of an issue with the likes of kinder eggs where pink/blue versions are marketed and intended to be purchased by a specific gender.

DisrespectfulAdultFemale · 19/02/2019 17:22

I love coconut ice. I would prefer pink because as a a general rule I'm not keen on artificially coloured blue food.

FingonTheValiant · 19/02/2019 17:23

FGS

Gingerkittykat · 19/02/2019 17:24

I'm not too impressed by the blue/pink for boys and girls.

feelingverylazytoday · 19/02/2019 17:27

Is this a joke? It's got to be a parody, surely. It's getting hard to tell nowadays.

AssassinatedBeauty · 19/02/2019 17:40

The thing is, what is revealed at these "gender reveal" parties, is actually the baby's sex. It can't be any else! A baby/child doesn't have a gender identity (if they ever have one) until they're born and much older, obviously.

The people that find these chocolate bars upsetting must struggle with children's toy shops, clothes shops and sweet shops too. I must have missed their complaints about pink/blue toy coding, clothes coding and kinder egg coding!

SparkiePolastri · 19/02/2019 17:43

Whittaker's is a well-known and very well-loved chocolate maker in NZ.

They make really good chocolate, and they come out with different and innovative ideas from time to time. Just to give UK people, who probably won't be at all familiar with them, some background.

This particular idea is a take on gender reveal parties - so you buy the block, not knowing whether you will get a pink or blue bar. You don't choose pink or blue.

Funds from sales go to Plunket, NZ's biggest children's charity.

I think they may have bitten off more than they can chew with this one though (no pun intended). Now that the rainbow, non-binary, gender fluids have got wind of it.

Igneococcus · 19/02/2019 17:49

I would walk over hot coals for one of their peanut slabs.

Threewheeler1 · 19/02/2019 17:49

I'm flabbergasted by this one!
DH wears a pink shirt. I love all shades of blue.
Neither of us have imploded yet.

reallyanotherone · 19/02/2019 17:55

I actually think it’s the opposite- it’s challenging the colour/gender thing.

You can’t choose the colour. So you can’t pick based on your gender. You are as likely to get a pink one as a blue one.

So either people will stop buying it for fear they will get one that doesn’t align with their gender. Or they’ll get over themselves and it will become acceptable for boys to eat pink coloured treats, and girls blue ones.

Because eating the “wrong” coloured sweet will not caus penises to grow or drop off. It’s a colour.

MillytantForceit · 19/02/2019 17:58

Yorkie bars offensive to Lancastrians.

Dothehappydance · 19/02/2019 17:59

Life is such a struggle, I'm not sure how we manage to get through each day being so offended by everything.

It is hard, I will need to lie down and eat my acceptable tube of smarties whilst I recover.

Imnobody4 · 19/02/2019 18:01

Surely this has to be a variation on the 'Baa Baa Black Sheep meme? Please, I hope, it surely has to be.

plattercake · 19/02/2019 18:02

Its massively sexist and regressive o I am happy to see it dropped, but I actually cannot fathom what some trans people are objecting to given there is usually reference to pink and blue brains and GI Joe vs Barbie determining gender.

It must be as you say reallyanother one

MillytantForceit · 19/02/2019 18:02

"Raspberry Ripple is a disability hate-crme..."

GooodMythicalMorning · 19/02/2019 18:07

That has to be one of those wind up pieces surely. ridiculous

MargueritaPink · 19/02/2019 18:21

No it isn't. The sweets are not marketed for a specific sex. It's quite the opposite.

ImFineThankYouSusan · 19/02/2019 18:31

Let's remind ourselves of the colours of the official trans flag, shall we?

🤔🤔🤔

Offended by coconut ice
Ellabella989 · 19/02/2019 18:33

FFS

DangermousesSidekick · 19/02/2019 18:38

These people and the number of things that upsets them are just embarrassing.

Now sue me for saying that!

How very nonbinary phobic that flag is!

Should I be offended as a woman that I might accidentally purchase a blue chocolate that doesn't align with my non-existant gender identity?

plattercake · 19/02/2019 18:44

No it isn't. The sweets are not marketed for a specific sex. It's quite the opposite.

I'm confused. If its not based on blue for boys and pink for girls, how can it be linked to gender reveal and all those storks? Its just ooh a surprise colour. What's the marketing gimmick?

I don't understand anything any more

GerryblewuptheER · 19/02/2019 18:46

Seriously ridiculous

Coconut ice has always been pink. In this instance it's just another colour isn't it?

No ones het up over prawn cocktail and salt and vinegar crisps .
