Aren't the parking bays sign posted as parent and child? I had a friend once who use to park in one whenever he drove his mum to the supermarket, he argued that he wasn't technically doing anything wrong. Smile

MargueritaPink · 19/02/2019 21:33

I'm pretty certain I've never seen a mum and child reserved parking space.

Ereshkigal · 19/02/2019 21:44

The article may seem silly but there is a worrying trend. There was one a while back (DM too I think) about "oh those nutty trans, what will they think of next" complaining about parents' parking bays at a supermarket being labelled with those "mum & kid" signs.

Two different non GC (as in not active but can see there are issues) people in my life sent me that same article if it's the one I am thinking of Grin

Tbh, coconut is foul. I can cope with a bounty if I am having a once a decade chocolate craving and there is no other chocolate available, but it's rather too like chewing chocolatey scrapings of dead skin.

Maybe it's nice on Weetabix?

Silentcrow, the DM appears to have a big readership down under - they may even have a print edition. They have a lot of weird articles writes by Australian dieticians for some unknown reason. It may be that the article was first posted in their world news section, but enough clicks and it will rise up the news feed.

I doubt there is a plot, though clearly DM have worked out that trans stories go down well with the section of their readership who like something to splutter over as they drink their morning coffee.

ICJump · 19/02/2019 22:50

I want coconut ice. I don’t think I’ve ever seen it sold apart from homemade at fates. I might have to make some myself.

silentcrow · 19/02/2019 23:22

Need interesting! I can't keep up with who owns what these days (I'm still flummoxed by the Guardian having a US edition Grin). It would all be a fascinating case study in news manipulation if it wasn't such a damaging topic.

LivininaBox · 19/02/2019 23:30

Hang on, coconut ice is meant to be pink and white. Who wants to eat blue? Surely right thinking people of all genders and none will be up in arms about being given blue coconut ice as a "surprise"?

lunar1 · 19/02/2019 23:34

It's poses a real problem, ds2 is absolutely banned from blue food colouring, I swear he grows horns and becomes part demon. So if I bought him one there would be a 50/50 chance he could have it!

ErrolTheDragon · 19/02/2019 23:55

I've got a heretical desire to try weetabix with banana and coconut milk now, but fortunately we don't have any weetabix.

BiologyNotBigotry · 20/02/2019 00:09

I'm offended that they're selling some sort of chocolate thing & claiming it's coconut ice.

Does anyone have a good recipe for coconut ice? The proper stuff, I mean! DH's nan made the best coconut ice but I think the recipe was one she'd memorised. Sad

Really?

I have looked at the link now though and I see it wasn't about that exactly. It was about showing family structures other than the nuclear family. I don't feel happy about them lumping that in with the trans nonsense either!

Can't they just shove one of each in their gob at the same time?

SparkiePolastri · 20/02/2019 00:21

That's terrible, it's not coconut ice at all it's white chocolate. White chocolate is only fit for feeding to under-5s.

For all the Highly Confused... Grin

You're correct. It's not actually coconut ice. It's coconut ice-flavoured chocolate.

Whittaker's have a long and glorious history of doing exactly this.

Their chocolate is good.

And their white chocolate isn't like any white chocolate you will have tasted - it's delicious.

chaoticgood · 20/02/2019 00:23

It just seems that whenever someone challenges "pink n blue", "his n hers", "mum n dad", it gets pointed at and laughed at as an example those crazy gender benders!

Which I can't see having a happy ending tbh.

chaoticgood · 20/02/2019 00:35

Ah - that wasn't even the one I had in mind - I was thinking of the other recent Daily Mail article on Parking Bay Panting Horrors. Which was all about the be-skirted traditional sign:

www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-6607121/Fury-Aldi-paints-family-car-parking-spaces-avoid-offending-male-non-binary-shopper.html

(and sorry MargueritaPink I realise you were talking about the text on the signs, whereas I was just talking about the graphic).

catkind · 20/02/2019 00:36

chaotic I get what you're saying. If there was intended to be a pink/blue gender/sex reveal connotation to this chocolate (which isn't entirely clear to me) it is naff.

Sparkie not buying it, noone can make white chocolate a good thing. Unless they add c70% more cocoa solids, that might just redeem it I guess.

Biology we made this one at Christmas. In pink naturally. Miraculously the males and pink-hating females in the family still managed to enjoy it.

Peanut slabs don't have peanut butter, they are just a lot of good crunchy peanuts in very good chocolate. I think they found the perfect ratio between nuts and chocolate. I need to ask mil to send some.

Illyria47 · 20/02/2019 07:39

Whittaker's said in a statement it wanted to create a product that supports Plunket and is "connected to the nostalgic coconut ice treat".

"Coconut ice is usually pink so that's where we started, but given Plunket's association with babies we went for blue as our other coconut ice colour. We're proud the funds raised will go towards Plunket's Raise a Bundle campaign, which helps nurture kiwis for the first 1000 days of their life."

The campaign was "intended to be a bit of fun ... rather than to create controversy or offend anyone".

"We have had a lot of positive feedback from people who have enjoyed it for what it is, but we value all feedback and will keep it in mind for the future."

So, all explained. Yes pink and blue are colours generally thought outmoded for differentiating between boys and girls but I don't think
anybody is taking this too seriously except for a few diehards. I don't think Whittaker's is trying to erase trans gender, non binary, etc persons deliberately. It does taste nice, little too sweet for me, I like their dark chocolate but I will manfully, or should I say womanfully chomp through the block for the good of the cause!
