What is odd is that the second article is correct that there are no specifics except laughing. I've not heard of prosecution for a one off verbal altercation except in the most serious of cases. If that were so, you'd expect the complainant to know what the abuse was, rather than having to presume the defendant was transphobic.

Lots of people get laughed at though - fat people, bald men, men in cycling gear, homeless people, etc, etc - and none of these are 'protected characteristics'.

'Gender reassignment' is a ridiculously vague category to be included. People have the choice to dress in such a way that doesn't make them stand out and face ridicule - women, disabled/disfigured people, old people and people from ethnic minorities don't have any choice about their condition.

It does read like 'screaming abuse' is just total hyperbolic bullshit.

Its funny isn't it, women have been subjected to this sort of shit from men since the dawn of time and are just expected to put up with it and, let's face it, far worse as well.

Another thing, a lot of crossdressers like to try to get wolf-whistles and hollers from builders, etc for validation. Perhaps this complainant's fantasy didn't quite come true so they went nuclear 'ma'am' to get revenge on the non-compliant men.

'Pointed and laughed' is something that could happen to you for many reasons - being fat, purple hair, piercings, tattoos, etc. Most of them aren't protected though.

That second article is very good. It’s absolutely ridiculous...I don’t know a single woman who hasn’t been shouted at during her life. Now because men are complaining it’s a police offence???

Trans people just seem to not accept the everyday "abuse" that women have to put up with all the time, the everyday sexism if you will (referring to the other thread!). I got called a pot bellied pig when I was heavily pregnant by some random bloke on the street and all I did was go back to my car and cry. Maybe I should have called the police? Would they have done anything? Probably not!

First they say that they are the exact same category as us.

Then they object to being treated exactly as people in our category have always been.

It's like they don't actually want to be women.

In general terms, rather than catcalling or street abuse (which biological women have been quietly putting up with for millennia), putting a trans gender person above laughter (purely because they are trans gender) is a worrying situation. If you can’t laugh at something you can’t satirise it, and satire is crucial to a healthy society.
