'Graham Spiers was part of a group of males who shouted obscenities at the woman as she and a friend walked past a pub in Bonnington, Edinburgh.

Spiers, a father-of-two, screamed abuse as the woman made her way along the Capital’s Great Junction Street.

Spiers, 45, and his pals were also said to been “pointing and laughing” at the woman .

On Wednesday, a sheriff told Spiers there is “no place in today’s society” for the way he behaved and ordered him to pay the woman £500 in compensation as well as fining him.'

'Sheriff Robert Fife told Spiers: “Your offensive comments were not funny at the time and are not funny now.'

'Sheriff Fife told Spiers to pay the woman £500 in compensation and also fined him £500.'

Labourer fined for taking the piss out of a woman? This is progress for sure.

She added: “He held me in the house for four weeks and wouldn’t let me out. I couldn’t even to the toilet alone."

And there's a local case of two blokes in a van circling a woman plus friend, shouting obscenities, following them all the while telling them what they'd like to do to them. Woman remembered the van's reg number, reported to police, police identified the blokes and "had a quiet word with them" then told the complainer "they're just stupid guys who don't know any better". End of. Apparently no crime to prosecute.

Fair enough I suppose. I don't want anyone getting abuse whoever they are. Hopefully this will open the door to many more actions on street abuse.

Howell was fined £450 and banned from contacting Emma for six months.

Well it makes it clear. We should all identify as transwomen. It would be much safer. We can do that, right?

Sadly its well known in Scotland out slow justice system.

Any street abuse should be taken seriously of course, its just woefully inconsistent with different 'women'.

God, that is slow.

You'd expect that sort of incident to be dealt with relatively quickly, no? For the sake of the victim and even the perpetrator.

I hesitate to ask how long offences of rape take to get to the courts. In the very few cases which are even prosecuted of course.

Obviously quite unpleasant and intimidating, but I'm not sure it's more intimidating than 'get your tits out' or whatever addressed towards a woman.

Clearly some women are more valid than others......and as they do woman so much better, they deserve protection.....the ones born as girls just have to put up with shite.
