Mentions NS saying that she thinks that women's concerns regarding gender legislation are "mis[laced"

The Scottish government seems to just dismiss women's and girls needs. They are not justifying why they want sex based rights and sex segregation to be abolished.

happydappy2 · 11/02/2019 08:49

It’s terrifying that Nicola is in such a position of authority yet can’t see the very real threat of trans ideology.....she should be campaigning to keep sex segregated spaces for women not dismantle them. Can she really not see how offensive cis is as well?

CaptainKirksSpookyghost · 11/02/2019 09:26

Can she really not see how offensive cis is as well?

She and all those like her can see and do see, but they don't care.

Horsewithnoma · 11/02/2019 09:30

I though politicians were only interested in votes; how is this a vote-winner?

CaptainKirksSpookyghost · 11/02/2019 09:32

I though politicians were only interested in votes; how is this a vote-winner?

You find a part which doesn't follow this ideology.
It's only a vote winner if another big party is opposed to it.

theOtherPamAyres · 11/02/2019 10:04

The SNP will not get a 2019/2020 budget through Parliament without the support of the Scottish Greens.

The Finance Minister has already stated that he has had to cave in to Green demands for grants and things like the new parking tax, as part of the deal.

Patrick Harvie and the Scottish Greens are extreme Trans Advocates: there is no place in their party for sceptics and dissenters to the idea that TWAW. The SNP can only survive the next budget round with those same Green MSPs.

It's in the interest of women and children that the Scottish Greens are defeated heavily at the next election in 2021.

BetsyM00 · 11/02/2019 11:58

Did anyone see the piece in the Scotsman at the weekend? Seems even Highland games won't get any funding unless they have a non-binary category.
www.scotsman.com/news/politics/scotland-s-main-highland-games-body-under-pressure-to-offer-transgender-competitions-1-4870863

And James Morton is suggesting that events are reorganised so that, for example, tossing the caber competitors are grouped by height.

Galvantula · 11/02/2019 12:59

I saw Rhoda Grant MSP named again in that article as pushing this Betsy

I've met her a few times and i reckon she'd be quite easily influenced tbh. :(

IDoN0tCare · 11/02/2019 13:15

The Scottish government said: “We are firmly committed to building an inclusive Scotland where men continue to feel valued and respected for who they are, and it is absolutely right that we put women back in their place to support that. We value our relationship with key male intermediaries and the vital work they do.

Fixed that.

BetsyM00 · 11/02/2019 13:27

Galvantula Yep, Rhoda Grant told me that people can change sex. Koolaid central.

AnyOldPrion · 11/02/2019 13:46

”Nicola Sturgeon told a meeting at the United Nations, where she was being recognised for her work in advancing gender equality,”

This sentence is so sad. “Gender equality” used to be about reducing the gap between male and female and ensuring rights for women.

Now it’s all about pushing people into the class they demand, without regard for the people that will hurt. Women’s rights are being thrown away in the rush.

BlahXXBlah · 11/02/2019 14:21

misplaced concerns? MISPLACED!

Is that Sturgeon speak for don't bother yer silly wee wimmin heed?

How very fucking dare she!

Popchyk · 11/02/2019 14:27

Why doesn't Sturgeon state what the concerns actually are and how they are misplaced?

Lay it all out there.

Spell out the structures that the SNP are putting in place in order to prevent predatory males accessing women's spaces.

Or spell out that there are no structures and the SNP hopes that predatory males don't take advantage of a system with zero checks.

Either way, I am all ears.

BlahXXBlah · 11/02/2019 14:43

Hey there First Min, why not provide equal funding to women's service and rights groups whilst supporting their authority to uphold single sex provision according to the equality act, then have your vote and claim evidence. That would seem a little less like bias, a little less like the SNP has been bought by a cult and a little less like you don't give a damn about half of the population. Fair's fair eh?

Perhaps you could even investigate the dismantling of safeguarding at your behest in schools, prisons, charities, etc with a team actually qualified to do so whilst you are at it instead of just waving through whatever crosses your desk with an LGBT rainbow stamped on it. You know maybe consult some qualified experts for a change?

How many parents is it going to take for you to pay attention? How many more crimes against women and children. Are you just waiting for the legal challenge like you did with the Named Person scheme? We all saw how that went. These pesky wimmin with their ignorance and misplaced concerns.

Galvantula · 11/02/2019 15:43

Yes Betsy The relative who i know her through did describe her as ahem not the sharpest. Hence why i thought she's been taken in by this guff.

There are a lot of people going along with it all over the place who otherwise seemed quite intelligent before, though.

It's really depressing how many people, male and female are happy to chuck women under a bus to look impressive.

CaptainKirksSpookyghost · 11/02/2019 15:48

Sometimes you can get to a point when you are totally out of step with the public, partly due to arrogance which is mistake for intelligence.
I call it the Stephen Fry effect.

terryleather · 11/02/2019 16:22

I'm coming to the depressing conclusion that people very often do not pay anything other than the most superficial attention to what they are cheerleading for.

As long as a) they choose the approved things to cheerlead for b) they can feel good and righteous about themselves and c) everyone else can see them being good and righteous that's all that seems to matter.

It's depressing a.f. that so many of the so called great and the good seem to have nothing to offer but empty performative rightthinking bs with no more than a couple of seconds thought as to what the consequences of their cheerleading might actually be.

Freespeecher · 11/02/2019 16:23

Sigh. If only they were biased towards trains activists. At least the Flying Scotsman might get a lick of paint out of it.

Galvantula · 11/02/2019 17:55

Free Grin

Galvantula · 11/02/2019 17:56

Also "quite intelligent" was maybe generous.

Reasonably intelligent?

Not that stupid?

QuintadiMalago · 11/02/2019 18:01

I think the phrase mentioned on another thread is appropriate here

Nicola Sturgeon is doing the *wokey-fucking-cokey and the let's centre men dance

BlahXXBlah · 11/02/2019 18:05

People are going along with what they are told and believe to be equal rights for transgender people. This is incorrect. They need to understand that transpeople already have equal rights and this is in fact about the removal of rights from women and girls. Presented as a removal of rights from half the population I am betting not one would be in favour.

Ereshkigal · 11/02/2019 18:08

Why doesn't Sturgeon state what the concerns actually are and how they are misplaced?

They rarely do, do they? Which is surprising if they are so easily dismissed. Some reassurance would go a long way. Strangely they don't do that.

Snort.

There you go, assuming gender. Tut tut
