Apparently a woman spent 8 hours in a cell/being interviewed by the police for a "transphobic" Tweet along the lines of TWAW. Can't bring myself to buy the Mail tomorrow to check the details, but it may be taken up by other papers.

littlbrowndog · 10/02/2019 20:21

This has given ppl the freedom to speak. And engage. It’s all been hidden up till now

It’s out there now the whole ridiculous pack of shite this stuff is

Popchyk · 10/02/2019 20:23

Just on the free speech front.

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/womens_rights/3365010-Durham-Philosophy-Journal-editor-sacked-for-saying-women-dont-have-penises?msgid=84838683

The above is a link to another thread on here where there is an update on Angelos Sofocleus, the Philosophy Student who was sacked a few months ago as editor at Durham Philosophy Journal for saying that women don't have penises.

Angelos has now been de-platformed from an event entitled "Is there a problem with free speech on campus?" at the University of Bristol.

The Student Union has stated that “Our initial assessment of the speaker, made in consultation with the police, is that public disorder is highly likely”.

ToeToToe · 10/02/2019 20:25

FFS, you couldn't make it up, Popchyk.

littlbrowndog · 10/02/2019 20:26

Idiots over privileged idiots

Idiots over privileged idiots

Useful idiots with power!

Teaching our children, making policy in the charity third sector, creating guidelines and advising elected representatives in civil service...

LangCleg · 10/02/2019 20:30

I don't want to live in a place where the police can arrest me for something I've said on twitter. With reasonable "incitement to violence" exceptions of course.

With reasonable being the operative word.

I mean, it's not as though the British justice system doesn't have Twatter form. Remember the Robin Hood airport bomb joke?

littlbrowndog · 10/02/2019 20:33

They do.

But us ordinary ppl not putting up with this stuff
What’s wrong with our government and councils and girl guides and the rest

It’s like they have been groomed
Stonewall playing a huge part in this

Carowiththegoodhair · 10/02/2019 20:36

100k shares now. Cake

remainymcremainface · 10/02/2019 20:53

"At some point our government may worry about how this looks to those out side the UK......"

If they aren't worried about how Brexit makes them look to the rest of the world I hardly think this will Blush

ToeToToe · 10/02/2019 20:57

It is Stonewall, Mermaids and the like - all these training courses on the quiet.

Plus the 'behind the scenes' lobbying by TEFL or whoever with the powers-that-be. Snuck in under the radar - that's how they operate.

People want the police to do actual policing - not thought policing or twitter monitoring.

Datun · 10/02/2019 20:57

Wow. The daily mail are never going to let this go.

ToeToToe · 10/02/2019 20:59

What with this and brexit, I think I'll start identifying as a different nationality...

hackmum · 10/02/2019 21:30

Does anyone know how the reporter got the story? I assume Kate isn’t allowed to speak to the press because of the injunction.

RockyFlintstone · 10/02/2019 21:43

I can't believe this story has had 100k shares?!

Katvonfelttipeyebrows · 10/02/2019 21:48

106k

I actually sat there and thought 106 or 106,000. Just because WOW

Grin

Stepho has behaved horribly, they were involved in the whole situation leading to the tweeting of caros church too. You would have thought someone so crushed by harassment would leave other people alone. But no.

So very glad they are now infamous, they are a bully. Their criminal record must NEVER be hidden. No one's criminal record should be hidden.

LizzieSiddal · 10/02/2019 21:48

I wonder if SH will be reporting the thousands of people who have today, ”misgendered” them, on Twitter and Facebook, to the police?
I can just picture SH now, writing a list.

I have no sympathy for the at all. You reap what you sow.

Iused2BanOptimist · 10/02/2019 21:52

Hackmum SH was boasting about getting a woman arrested on twitter. So if anyone saw that I assume they could just search court records for the case?

Carowiththegoodhair · 10/02/2019 21:53

In that RollonFriday story, Hayden was aged 28 in 1999. Meaning that they are now 47, going on 48.

So why does their Twitter handle have 73 as a suffix, which implies the year of birth. Surely it ought to be 71? Sorry, just bugging me.

FlyingOink · 10/02/2019 21:55

I mean, it's not as though the British justice system doesn't have Twatter form. Remember the Robin Hood airport bomb joke?
He deserved that, it was a stupid thing to do. A bomb threat is a bomb threat. And all he got was a fine anyway.

Iused2BanOptimist · 10/02/2019 21:57

48? 48? Bet that's a state secret too.
Getting a bit old for a midlife crisis. Hmm

Katvonfelttipeyebrows · 10/02/2019 22:11

Ooof even miimmmeeemummmmeee realises this is a massive own goal. It's interesting seeing them deal with the real public one their feeds.
Seems the public are overwhelmingly t*rfs

BettyDuMonde · 10/02/2019 22:20

Glinner didn’t actually get a caution, though, did he?

You need to admit guilt to a criminal offence to receive a caution.

As yet, none of these trans-related accusations have resulted in criminal charges - nor indeed the confirmation of the occurrence of an actual crime.

Datun · 10/02/2019 22:29

As yet, none of these trans-related accusations have resulted in criminal charges - nor indeed the confirmation of the occurrence of an actual crime.

And the more they come to nothing, the more the public identify them as intimidation.

Iused2BanOptimist · 10/02/2019 22:31

So this American journalist Nick Monroe has suggested mass blocking of police twitter accounts. It means it will be a bit harder for them to police tweets.
