Petition to get police to stop taking sides in political debate

There have been a lot of threads recently about police visiting people for expressing perfectly legal gender critical opinions online. I’m thinking about the case of harry the owl in particular. This seems to be silencing people creating a chilling effect. The police seem to be doing this even when they fully acknowledge no crime has been committed and talk of using police interviews to check people’s thinking. This is what I have read here anyway. So if this is true then I think most people would agree that free speech is important and that the police force shouldn’t use their office to back one side of a contentious political debate and should be impartial upholders of the law. I think there must be dozens of Tory MPs who would agree if only they knew that this was going on. A petition that would have to be debated in parliament would help alert and inform them. Does such a petition exist and if not could some talented articulate writer please create one? I’d love MPs to debate this.

I suggest you start an official government petition rather than change.org.

Ironically, Stonewall has been calling for a "full review into hate crime legislation", following a study that claimed that a third of transgender people had been victims of transphobia. (Yougov 2018).

In response, the National Police leaders promised to introduce new training for front-line officers - particularly around transphobia.

Ruth Hunt called on 'cisgender people' (sic) to take a stand against the hate.

It's rare for both Stonewall and people like me to agree that the law needs a fresh pair of eyes, but I say "bring it on!".

The petition, if it goes ahead, needs to be addressed to Government. They are the law-makers. They made the laws on hate crimes and hate incidents. Only government can re-direct the police following a thorough review of the definition of transphobia, police training and police practice.

This is what I have read here anyway.

This is your first problem. Go to the original sources and form your own view instead of accepting statements made by others with an agenda.
