Grey’s Anatomy drank the Kool-Aid

I like a bit of escapist medical drama, so I have been watching Grey’s on Prime for the last few months. (Didn’t see it first time around, life and all that).

Up to season 14 now, a bunch of new interns have arrived, and it turns out one of them is a transman. It was quite well done, and I thought to myself how nice it was that a) it was a male to female trans person for a change and b) that there was no big song and dance about it.

So I reach episode 12, and lo and behold a transwoman has arrived in the storyline. Ten minutes into the episode and I have already heard the words/phrases ‘cis’ ‘woke’ cisgender’ and that old favourite ‘help their bodies match their souls’, along with ‘41% of trans attempt suicide’.

I think I may need to skip this episode.......

Look, aside from Meredith being minted (never explained), they saved up by all living in the same house like students into their late 30s. If only the rest of us would live in a student flop house on six figure consultants’ salaries, we too could buy our own hospital.

I gave up around the same point, Vicky. I know it must be great having a steady income, but Ellen Pompeo must hate playing a boring, miserable bag like Meredith Grey for all these years. Her character sucks the life out of every scene she’s in. Derek got off lightly dying young IMO.

It happened long before that, when Ben's brother announced he was trans and Bailey immediately started calling him Ben's sister and getting narked with Ben for not immediately getting the pronouns right for his clearly male sibling who had been his brother for the last 40 years.

Watched come dine with me couples today, and there was a couple where there was a transwoman and his female partner. They seemed like a very nice couple and the transwoman had no hang ups about discussing the transition. One of the other couples got teary about their bravery and how they stood up against 'all the haters.'
