"Germaine Greer
Front Row

As she turns 80, Germaine Greer reflects on her career as a Shakespeare academic, public intellectual, feminist and provocateur.

Germaine Greer discusses her passion for Shakespeare and how reading his comedies influenced her thinking for The Female Eunuch; her work championing the work of female writers and painters; how much things have really changed for women; and she shares her thoughts on censorship and pornography and why being outspoken is the best way to provoke change."

It is a BRILLIANT interview: the whole of Front Row - everyone should listen to it. She is extraordinary. I hope I can be half as sharp as her in 20 years when I'm 80. But I won't be a revolutionary like Professor Greer - I don't have the guts or the strength (I'm a committee woman). But she makes it possible for me to do what I do.

I've been tweeting out some of her statements.

What I like was her absolute self-knowledge & honesty. She talked about the price she's paid and that liberation was (and still is) HARD>

I think too many people swallowed the liberal feminist story of the 90s that we're all "post-feminism" ad "equal" now (a bit like swallowing the "We're all middle class now). That's how we've got into the mess we're in now.

I can remember in 1977 in my first year of university, one of my English lit tutors warning us (women) that we only have the rights we can fight for. How right she was.

Inspired by Professor Greer. I have to remember her clarity & try to channel & use it.

Thank you will enjoy this tomorrow.

If you're outspoken, it gets people talking and thinking and talking some more...
