It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia - Gender Identity Bathroom Episode

Has anyone seen this episode (s13 e6) on Netflix where the gang try to work out how to label their bathrooms to be more inclusive?

At first I thought it was going to be eye-rollingly woke but in fact it took to piss out of everyone, all identity politics, even highlighting the fact that every time the only woman tried to speak up she was aggressively shouted down.

Worth a watch. This was my favourite comedy in early seasons but it’s lost its mojo lately.

I watched it the other day and thought it was interesting how they dealt with it.

There was a trans character in an early season and a character who identified as a cat a few seasons ago.

Season 1 Mack briefly dated a male born trans person.

Haven’t watched this episode yet but am going to skip ahead and watch it now and then come back to the thread.

E new series of Family Guy is interesting for similar reasons. It references gender issues every episode, and almost never in a sympathetic way!

It'd be interesting to see The Simpsons take on this.

There was an episode where Patti got engaged but when she found out that her fiance was a transwoman she broke it off because she is a lesbian.

The episode about Maureen Ponderosa identifying as a cat seemed very pointed to me and yes, I agree the bathroom ep was unexpected.

I don’t know how it’s been received by the usual commentators (but I can guess)

Also I’m fairly out of touch with South Park, but they seem to have been quite scathing about trans ideology, although I haven’t seen enough of the later ones to know if it’s fair comment or simple transphobia.

Agree the last few seasons haven't been so good but Philly was back this season. I think they did this well. The plane one was good too... Save yourself for the last one tho!

The unquestioning acceptance of TWAW by Dee was a bit predictably woke I thought. Also, at the end of the episode the conclusion is we're all undignified when using the bathroom, so what does it matter if they're segregated, which is again, a bit too woke for me. So I'm not sure they are criticising anything by the end of it, and it feels a little "can't we all just get along?"

Watched it! I agree, it was a pretty astute observation of the current situation in that Dee was constantly talked over or disregarded. Interesting that Frank (the oldest male character) didn’t want broads in his shitter either.

Funny/not funny that it ended with everyone being allowed to use the ladies because it was the nicest (and the gents was left to non-human users).

Yes Dee was a bit quick to agree TWAW but I think that was a plot device to let them explore all the other ridiculous identity politics instead of the obvious one.

I thought it was quite clever in that respect and didn’t feel too woke to me (Charlie only identifying as trans when he wants a shit for example).

Just jumping in here to say that last episode had me in floods of tears. Not something I would expect from always sunny!

Wow, I actually saw that Simpsons's episode with Patty but that must've been before the current gender juggernaut because it never struck me as un-PC at all!
