I don't have a share token but if anyone else has that would be most helpful.

Such fragile little snowflakes these trans-activists are to once again being offended by a person asking a reasonable question about proposed legislation. Please, please, please will people in Authority stamp on this once and for all, call it out for the idiocy it is. I think I need some R and R in Badley Fuckitt again!

feministfairy · 26/01/2019 00:46

A good article that also mentions the idiot principal of Edinburgh University's vendetta against those who believe woman = adult human female.

She is fantastic, a tremendous feminist and all round excellent person. She shared a post about a meeting at Westminster on twitter. Is that all it takes to lose a position these days? Don't think so. These witch hunters are completely deluded and Edinburgh Uni needs to get behind it's staff, stand up for women and stop with the bullshit indulgence.

I note the Times is saving these stories up for weekend additions and applaud them.

PlectrumElectrum · 26/01/2019 02:36

I think Ann sounds like an awesome woman & the article is great - really focuses on the key issue which is the unwarranted & over the top witch hunt which is also pure misogyny.

Transactivists and allies are coming across as increasingly unhinged.

They're furious that an equalities post has gone to a woman at all. And it shows.

AugustL · 26/01/2019 04:55

The trans activists are showing themselves up here.

This was her crime?
"In October, she retweeted a post that included details of a meeting to discuss changes to the Gender Recognition Act (GRA) and asked: “How will changes to the GRA affect women’s rights?” It prompted outrage from The Student Newspaper and Edinburgh University Students’ Association."

These students are behaving like fascists.

As @Datun said in this thread:

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/womens_rights/3487089-Trans-activist-shares-their-activism-tactics

"*This government has consulted on a change to the law, for which they asked people to respond. To meet, talk about the implications and fill in a consultation document.

The clue is in the name. The government are consulting their constituents.

Gun toting TRAs from America, threatening women and laying out a battleplan to force the UK general public into complying with their ideology, don't seem to realise that what women are doing is not only legal, it's been promoted by our government*"

These trans activists are being manipulative and sinister as fuck too with their hyperbolic nonsense tirade in that article. Horrid authoritarian little pricks.

Well sounds like they haven't succeeded judging from the statement from the Labour Party.

"The Labour Party defended Ms Henderson. “Every year the committee elects a chair who facilitates discussions but doesn’t vote,” a spokeswoman said. “As the rector of Edinburgh University, former assistant secretary in the Scottish Trades Union Congress and a lifelong equalities and women’s rights activist, Ann brings a wealth of experience to the role.” "

I am actually surprised they didn't cave. Though they made sure to say she doesn't vote. Ann Henderson was a left wing NEC candidate so she will have support of the leadership. She has been on the left slate for NEC nomination in the past, backed by Momentum and other left wing groups. I wonder if that is the full statement from Labour, as they didn't mention anything relating to transgender, or attempt to address LGBT Labour's bullshit.

Transactivists and allies are coming across as increasingly unhinged.

This is so obvious to me, and yet the UK police force and the government still seems to be behind them. How far will they have to go and how much harm will women have to endure before the powers that be stop believing the lie that this is a benign movement with “just a few bad eggs”.

Qcng · 26/01/2019 10:01

It sounds as though Labour are defending her position, which shouldn't be surprising but it is.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 26/01/2019 10:07

I was pondering yesterday. When I was a young woman there were some women who would get sniffy at called Mrs/Miss/Miss. It was laughed off as a ‘Millie Tant’ joke and you’d even see comedy sketches about it on tv. The women would always be ridiculed and laughed at.

Now we have ‘call me Ma’am’ men and it’s all ok then? Jumping though hoops so we don’t offend?

However a friend texted me when I was having a nightmare in my bank (and was getting quite cross). “I’m having a ‘call me ma’am’ moment in the bank” I texted her. Then I laughed as I remembered my point above!

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 26/01/2019 10:09

(I wasn’t crashing about the bank like Godzilla and swearing at/ threatening people though.)

Jackshouse · 26/01/2019 11:04

I’m not so sure the TRAs are unhinged. They are trying their hardest to prevent dicussions and of women’s issues. I think they know sensible discussion would lead to the unraveling of their narrative.

BettyDuMonde · 26/01/2019 11:27

She was elected. If labour members have a problem with someone’s (perfectly legal) views they can elect someone else next time - elections are yearly, so it’s hardly a lifetime appointment.

Datun · 26/01/2019 11:28

Jackshouse

I agree. They desperately want women to be quiet. But, as more women are waking up, they are upping the ante, which is why they're coming across as unhinged. Calling the police over limericks, this, if you ever supported women, in any way, you're a transphobic bigot, nonsense.

It looks desperate, because it is.

BettyDuMonde · 26/01/2019 11:36

Great comments on the article so far.

Bluestitch · 26/01/2019 20:51

Good Kirkup article on this, comparing the witch hunt for a retweet compared to silence about men who actually attended the meeting!

That's a highly lacklustre 'defence'. Here's what they should have said: "We think that a "history of sharing material that has been described as transphobic" is a malicious, make-believe non-reason for removing someone from office. LGBT Labour are under investigation for making a vexatious complaint and this investigation needs to run its course. Ann Henderson has an impressive track record in the Labour and Trade Union movement and we fully endorse her democratic election to this role." How about it, Labour Party?
