I showed the videos to dd2. Luckily we have a female fire fighter locally so she gets to see her drive the truck sometimes.

It's so sad how so young they come home saying they can't do stuff. It's a constant battle trying to reinforce the fact they can.

My niece is a firefighter. No one ever told her that she couldn’t. It was her choice of that or the navy. One sister does more traditional ‘girly’ work and that’s fine too. Her other sister is a plumber.

Hi just a little memory from me.

When I was younger women were just starting to join the fire service - my uncle was a fire chief. I looked up to him so many people did and he was a lovely man.

But he didn't think women could do it and he thought they would struggle with the training and I remember him telling me that as a girl.

He came straight back to me though and said he was completely wrong and the women who joined were fantastic, they went through the training and how very very wrong he was and he never ever should have held such a silly view.

My cousins, his daughters had the most amazing high flying careers too and say he supported them to not have limits.
Anyway it really changed his approach.
