Discriminated against because of gender...

In a trailer for In Our Time on Radio 4's Today programme Melvyn Bragg said that Emmy Noether (female Jewish mathematician) was discriminated against because of her gender.

I've emailed In Our Time to point out that she was discriminated against for her sex. I'm really disappointed in Melvyn: I thought he'd be more accurate.

If anyone else fancies sending an email it's:

I figure if we can make those in the media use the words sex and gender accurately it'll help.

I heard that this morning and it did jar when he said gender. You’re quite correct he meant sex. It’s not really helpful in the current climate of debate around gender ideology for people to persist in also using gender as a synonym for sex.

I meant to listen it later, it sounded like a very interesting program. Did he also use ‘gender’ during the program itself?

I heard that too and it didn't sound right. Women are discriminated against on the basis of their sex.

I think you're right. We're going to have to complain about every instance of this. Heaven knows the genderists complain about everything that offends them. Might as well complain when you have accuracy on your side!

The difficulty is that those in the normal world still see the two as synonymous. It’s only when you jump into the crazy world of gender politics with its daily shifting terminology that you realise there’s a problem at all.
