Gleepgorp

Yes one of the Councillors proposing the motion has updated on this thread earlier today.

Datun · 23/01/2019 18:11

Watching with interest.

Tackytriceratops · 23/01/2019 18:14

AspieAndProud and Cwenthryth

As they say

Divvnt worry pet!

ChewyLouie · 23/01/2019 18:16

Good luck, hope others will follow suit and question the current dogma.

SexNotJenga · 23/01/2019 18:29

GRA would make life really difficult for the orthodox Jewish women living in Gateshead (quite a significant community) who can only use sports facilities during women-only sessions. It would be terrible if the Labour Council were seen to be doing things that could be interpreted as anti-Semitic.

Declaration of interest: I use public sports facilities in Gateshead, and I am not going to share changing rooms or showers with penises.

JSmitty · 23/01/2019 18:32

...Not to mention the South Sheilds Yemenis.

Tackytriceratops · 23/01/2019 18:32

Extremely good point sex.

Roughly more than 8000 Haredi Jews now.

AugustL · 23/01/2019 19:28

Ahh shoulda kept it on the down low until after the vote.
For the locals to decide.
Much pressure and targeting of these councillors likely.

samsamsamsamsamsam · 23/01/2019 19:30

Yes! Near me too. No nonsense up here 😂

CarlGrimesMissingEye · 23/01/2019 19:34

I live in that region. Not one of their specific wards, my councillor is a Lib Dem. but well done to all of them for taking a sensible road

AspieAndProud · 23/01/2019 19:36

LGBT labour are looking for responses to share at that meeting. I'm not a labour member, so don't know if I can legitimately 'respond' but I -' quite certain they are looking for views from the broad church of Labour Party members.

The LGBT group won’t be looking for opinions they don’t agree with.

ChattyLion · 23/01/2019 20:07

Good luck! Star

Cwenthryth · 23/01/2019 21:59

The LGBT group won’t be looking for opinions they don’t agree with.

That’s back to front thinking though - they represent LGBT Labour members, they should listen to the opinions and needs of LGBT Labour members whether the core of the group are 100% personally in agreement or not.

Maybe we should all have kept quiet about this Angry

As might have been expected this motion has now been postponed following protests.

The motion, which was due to be proposed at Thursday's full council meeting, raises fears that the changes could impact women's rights.

It suggested a list of concerns and wordings that the council should adopt as its stance on the issue.

It has since been deferred so that representations on this can be heard.

The document called for more consultation, saying that public buildings should be used for this.

It said that it was important the consultation be accessible to all, and not just through an online document.

Coun Malcolm Brain, speaking in his capacity as secretary of Gateshead Labour Group, said that the motion had been delayed to allow people in the borough to give their views.

He said: "We've had a request to hear representations so we have deferred the motion to allow us to do that.

"If anyone has a view on the gender recognition act they should give that through their local councillor."

Tackytriceratops · 24/01/2019 20:30

I've seen concerns outlined by an lgbt person online (not sure who they are) and a lot of it doesn't make a huge amount of sense.

So if it is to be properly examined, in a way, let it be so. Given the demographic of the area this needs extremely careful thought, is backed up by current law and can't forfeit women's rights.

NoseringGirl · 24/01/2019 21:09

According to the chronicle article, a local Lib Dem said "Those behind the motion would do well to experience some trans awareness training" which just sounds like re-education in the gulag to me.

moimichme · 24/01/2019 22:23

This is shocking. How do these people have so much power to try and force everyone to see and do everything their way?? Angry

adultFemaleElf · 24/01/2019 22:37

Because they are men

BubonicTheHedgehag · 24/01/2019 23:22

These councillors are playing a blinder, a good one.
"We've had a request to hear representations so we have deferred the motion to allow us to do that.
Yes, they are open to debate. They are willing to meet and to talk and discuss. They are behaving like decent humans.

As opposed to the whole anti-women "#nodebate" stuff.

Dontgiveadamn · 24/01/2019 23:25

Well done you idiot feminists, you could have kept your mouths shut and keyboards silent but no you just had to stir the pot to gain virtue points. This could have gone through without drama. Is it any wonder feminists are despised?

BubonicTheHedgehag · 24/01/2019 23:33

And who might you be, then?
[Tilts head, smiles brightly!]

PimmsnLemonade · 24/01/2019 23:50

I found out about it because LGBT Labour were already expressing their outrage about it on Twitter: twitter.com/LGBTLabour/status/1087734018739785729

Funnily enough I don't spend my spare time combing the meeting papers for councils up and down the country, fascinating though I'm sure that is. Smile

gain virtue points

What virtue points? The only things that seem to get you virtue points these days are promoting harmful sex stereotypes, sterilising gnc young people, threatening women and badgering lesbians to accept penis.

Bubonicpanic · 25/01/2019 00:09

What a fascinating post from don't giveadamn.

That's a shut from me and a shut up from him. Any conversation going on feminists must shut up. Shut up or the shutter uppers will have more reason to shut you up.

Totally get the vibe there. Shut up. Whenever there is anything to discuss the recommendations are shut up if you are representing women.

Ta for that.

No.

WTFIsAGleepglorp · 25/01/2019 00:32

We only learned about it after @LGBT_Labour sent their followers to pile on to the Gateshead councillors.

Their own reply to the tweet highlighting how disappointed they were included the email address to report transphobia.
