From girl guiding. Please help.me word a reply

Thank you for your email.

Our E&D policy is based on the expectations set out in the Equality Act 2010. The policy was reviewed and agreed by our board of trustees and our chief commissioner group in 2016 and the guidance updated in 2017.

We have worked on our new updated guidance with Gendered Intelligence and Stonewall, and have been in dialogue with the EHRC. We have also sought legal advice and responded to questions from members and parents to make sure the guidance helps them as much as possible

The guidance that supports our volunteers to follow our E&D policy was written based on good practice and knowledge from specialist organisations that support charities like ours to look after our young trans members. However we have an annual policy review process where we look at all of our policies to check they are still fit for purpose and to update them if necessary

I hope that this answers your question.

Best wishes

Well done for not letting this go.
Being ‘proud ‘ of their own equality and diversity approach, but at the same time being unwilling or unable to answer any questions about its implications or impact seems a very weak position to be in.
Any professional diversity advice they have received, we can only assume is also therefore wholly inadequate. At a very basic level, that advice and guidance has not equipped them to answer simple questions about safeguarding.
That confirms our fears, sadly. That GG has been left with a policy that they are unable to properly understand, manage or explain.

I have a bit of knowledge of charities, and have been having a look on the Charity Commission website. The most recent GG accounts are for the year to 31 December 2017, which probably means the 2018 accounts are late, which is interesting, and may attract C Commission attention.

Also it's not a charitable limited company, also unusual these days, although it has slightly unusual status. I suspect though that if GG is not covered by insurance, the trustees themselves will be liable if (when) this all blows up. There is a company limited by guarantee, but that seems just to be a nominee for the Association, to hold its assets.

Has anyone contacted Charity Commission over their concerns? They won't want more Kids Company-alike publicity.

It is only Feb 19. That can’t be late to file 2018 accounts. I think they have 10 months to file so due Oct 19?

Gerry I am still waiting for my reply from GG. I have chased today but there was no information on the record. I haven't had a single concern of mine answered yet and I have been emailing since early October and my last email was sent before Christmas. A bit upset and frustrated now considering how much personal experiences (as well as referencing legislation etc) I have drawn on to enable them to understand my very considerable concerns.

Gah yes you're right gently.

The point about them having personal liability should still stand, though, as it's not a corporate charity.
