Women are a subset of people who can menstruate

I mean, that is basically all. Could it be clearer that this movement wants to erase women, and therefore prevent women from naming our sex-based oppression?

GCSocScientist that's one of the best posts I've ever read on this forum. Well said.

If 'women' is a term that frightens trans and non-binary people, how about using 'females' instead? It is an even more inclusive term, as it includes girls as well.

Quite so. A subset of females menstruate at some point in their lives. It's just a normal female bodily function. No subset of males menstruates.

'Inclusive' language should be accurate and never dehumanising. Feminism should include females - including those who reject 'femininity'. It should not include males, although feminism may often help them too.

Two problems with that:

  1. Some of these male people claim to be "females" too. Whatever word we use, they want it. They are very focused on the "exclusionary" part of that T* slur. They don't want women to have anythinga space, a word, political representationto ourselves.

  2. Females includes women and girls, but also cows, ewes, sows, etc. The word woman is necessary because it means (and has always meant!) adult human female.

Surely it is impossible for anyone, other than a woman to menstruate?

It is. You know this. I know this. They know this. We all know this.

This is about pretending that some women are not women, and pretending that some men are women, depending on what that individual wants to be called.

And now, this bullshit is about desperately trying to avoid using the word 'woman' or 'female' in relation to women, in order to please men who want to be women and know damn well they aren't.

They've appropriated woman, female, some insist that they have periods despite not having the equipment or bleeding (they apparently have mood swings which is JUST THE SAME... fgs), if women called themselves cassette radio players, it would take only days for TW to call themselves cassette radio players too and find a way in which THEY were cassette radio players and women were cis, or musical units or something.

The fact that the whole 'cis', 'menstruators' and other nutjobbery completely undermines everything they've said and that the narrative is demonstrably totally incoherent doesn't bother them because this is batshit . I'm done indulging it. At all. From the replies to the twitter feed, many women have hit the same point. There is a time to be kind, and there is a time to say get your size 13s the fuck off my foot right now.

Hear hear! Knicknack

I was actually being cynical in suggesting 'female'. Obviously the AWA TRAs (and their Handmaidens in the Faith) don't accept that, either.

GrinitchSpinach · 21/01/2019 17:34

I thought you might be, Jelly, but wanted to respond in earnest for anyone lurking and still making up his or her mind about these arguments.

Nutjobbery
My new favourite word
Nutjobbery
So much of it from the wokies

littlbrowndog · 21/01/2019 17:52

It’s all the pretending
Fuck it’s like playing with toddlers where you have to pretend
But naw just naw

newtlover · 21/01/2019 21:57

my explanation of this is simple, the person OP quotes just doesn't understand what 'subset' means
what they intended was
menstruators are a subset of women
which is true
I expect they would claim some other groups to be subsets of women, and they would probably be wrong
there is such a frustrating lack of critical thinking in the TRA narrative, I blame the teachers....or more likely Gove, or possibly Thatcher, for emphasising measurable results in schools over skills development including critical thinking
of course, plain common sense would also blow the whole thing out of the water, and I am hopeful it will in the end, but these kids think they are too clever for common sense, so ironic

WeRiseUp · 21/01/2019 22:53

Well right. These people are missing the very basics of logic. They don't know that 'same' and 'different' are distinct concepts. They don't know that a 'part' of a thing is not the same as the 'whole' thing.

It's this ridiculous, ridiculous, ridiculous fudging of the concepts of what is objectively 'identical' and what people subjectively 'identify' as.
