Januhairy

Anyone else doing it? I'm fair so often don't shave much in winter anyway, just armpits a couple of times a week but have decided to do the full Januhairy thing, but just for me not badgering people for sponsor money or anything. I've never been a fan of the plucked chicken with folliculitis look anyway.

How can you be doing it for you if you’re only doing it for a limited time that society says is acceptable?

I don’t understand such nonsense. You are a grown women, your own person, do what the fuck you like with your body.

I am doing AnnualHairy.

I occasionally fail in the summer months but only, thankfully, if the weather is good.

BreconBeBuggered · 19/01/2019 23:38

I have heard of it, but didn't look into it. It's not as if I'm going to be posting pictures of my perennially unshaven pits on Twitter.

JustHereForThePooStories · 19/01/2019 23:39

decided to do the full Januhairy thing

It’s not a thing.
It’s never been a thing.
Stop trying to make it a thing.
Shave or don’t shave as you see fit.

Mrsfrumble · 19/01/2019 23:40

I read about this Januhairy thing on a newsfeed a few weeks ago and my first thought was “What?! Some women actually bother to shave in winter????”

It’s all very odd.

MrsFogi · 19/01/2019 23:41

I think that this simply perpetuates the attitude that women must remove their hair. Very damaging.

elizabethdraper · 19/01/2019 23:41

Errr... what now

I only shave my pits in the summer if I feel like it never in the winter

Might do my legs every couple of weeks in the summer never in the winter.

Should I be asking for money every time I do it?

I would never have bare unshaven legs or wear sheer tights with unshaven legs but apart from a few dressy up occasions I've been wearing opaque tights since October. No need to shave.

So far as armpits - I think anti- perspirant works better on shaved underarms.

FissionChips · 20/01/2019 01:14

Drama students. Explains it all.

MargueritaPink · 20/01/2019 01:20

And on a similar vein - to paraphrase the joke about vegans:-

how do you know someone is doing dry January? Don't worry- they'll tell you

I was ill on Hogmanay and missed a party that night. Realised on 16th January that I hadn't drunk anything. Without the need to make an announcement about doing "dry January"

Ringdonna · 20/01/2019 14:33

I can’t stand any hair at all.

Oxytocindeficient · 20/01/2019 19:39

Embrace your hairiness and go beyond January!

tubspreciousthings · 20/01/2019 21:32

I heard about this on twitter - a man was saying how disgusting he thought it was. As one who doesn't give a shiny shit what men think of body hair, I'm going to now grow mine to plaiting length

2rebecca · 20/01/2019 21:35

I probably will bush wise but in summer prefer shaved axillae and sometimes legs. OK Januhairy is gimmicky but I think it's positive in trying to encourage women to be comfortable with their body hair again.

Yeah like we need a stupid month for an excuse.

I'm happy if it helps some women get comfortable with their natural hair, but I hope they don't just then shave first thing 1 February.

MargueritaPink · 20/01/2019 21:48

It is doing exactly the opposite of that. It's turning not shaving body hair into something as exceptional and to be endured for only a short time with an end in sight as giving up alcohol in January.

I personally don't care what you or any other woman does re epilation. I shave my armpits permanently and my legs if they are not going to be covered up. I don't care 2 figs if that makes me a victim of patriarchal oppression about how a woman is supposed to look.

If you do think it is oppression- fine don't shave any time. Januhairy is as gimmicky and annoying as dry January.
