metro.co.uk/2019/01/16/things-like-gender-wont-matter-if-we-dont-have-a-planet-8346579/amp/

In which Owl informs us that environmental concerns are far more important than nonsense introspection about 'gender'.
Which is a bold move considering that the Green Party, ostensibly set up to address those very pressing issues, has let nonsense introspection about gender eat their party from the inside out.

Still, it's nice to hear that Owl is going to stop being a bore about how very special their identity is and start focusing on things that actually matter...

Oh, that's not what Owl means, is it? Owl means "Shut up, women, you have to choose between your rights and safety or the planet. Your stuff isn't important anyway."

Says the person whose entire 'career' to date is about obsessing over gender...

Ridiculous whataboutery.

ZuttZeVootEeeVro · 16/01/2019 14:09

There's always the assumption that two, or more issues can't be solved at the same time.

And that women's rights and safety are never important enough be a priority.

AspieAndProud · 16/01/2019 14:25

I was hoping this thread was about Owl Schools. I am massively disappointed.

VickyEadie · 16/01/2019 14:25

See, I've been able all my adult life to pay attention to several issues that concern me.

Perhaps it's because I'm a woman.

MagicMix · 16/01/2019 14:26

And that women's rights and safety are never important enough be a priority.

But the literal violence of misgendering definitely is.

QuietContraryMary · 16/01/2019 14:27

Did Owl pass Muggle Studies?

RiverTam · 16/01/2019 14:28

Vicky yes, Owl proves the point that men can only think about one thing at a time.

Need to work on that, Owl dear. It's a bit of a giveaway.

silentcrow · 16/01/2019 14:34

I find myself giving this announcement rather a large amount of side-by-side and wondering just how many books Owl was signed on for.

silentcrow · 16/01/2019 14:35

Side-eye. Bloody autocorrect.

NothingOnTellyAgain · 16/01/2019 14:37

Owl says of people adversely impacted by extreme weather events:

"with over 80% of those affected being women."

How is Owl defining woman in this statement?

Not glib. If woman can mean anythign, and you dont' know if any individual is one until you ask, then it is literally impossible to make a statement like this. Owl has no idea how all those individuals who have been displaced identify. So what does Owl mean by this stat?

"No matter how much religious extremists say that natural disasters are an act of God to punish all those abominable homosexuals and trans people, this really is a consequence of the acts of humans and our unsustainable way of living."

Gay people. It was gay people. Specifically, gay marriage. A good example of trans being "added in" with another oppressed group. www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-oxfordshire-25793358

Oh yes. I mean, I am not shy about employing humour and Owl and Fox are always good for unintentionally raising a smile, but I'm quite serious about pointing out the problems here, both broadly with the dismissing of women's concerns, and the surely not well meant topic of environmentalism used to squash concerns about predators etc. in the wake of the report on the Green Party's mishandling of Aimee Challoner and father.

Me too aspieandproud. I had a sudden flashback to the Meg and Mog books for children, the one when Owl went to school Sad

Nah, surely not. Nothing happened before they were born, old people are so yesterday. Owl is cutting edge.

Oh of course wow fucking hell
That puts quite a different light on it

MagicMix · 16/01/2019 16:52

Such a good point. I hadn't noticed that. Always piggybacking on LGB.

Katvonbatshitmermaid · 16/01/2019 16:56

Did owl ever finish that amazing video ? I think we just got taster! What was the subject again?
Ponders
Oh that's right! Gender!
Least I think that's what it was about.
