Most gender critical/female rights party?

duriandurian · 15/01/2019 09:28

I have just realised that if there is an election soon I won't have a clue to whom I should give my vote.
I was thinking Lib Dem because Remain/Second Referendum. But the news articles I have googled don't look good. My local white, male labour MP Matt Western shot me down when I tried to raise women's vs transgender rights with wording suspiciously similar to other MPs' emails which were posted on here at the time.
Spoil my ballot? Thanks.

What's best to do - give them a copy of the Veritas report? Aimee's a Lib dem now, isn't she?

There are a number of reports and well researched articles which should resonate with LibDem MPs eg

The lies about NHS single sex accomodation (see Telegraph & Mail last weekend) detailed by Anne Harper Wright
www.mumsnet.com/Talk/womens_rights/3396859-Weve-been-lied-to-about-Single-SEX-wards-since-2010

Safeguarding vulnerable female prisoners (James Kirkup has been good at reporting on this with regards Karen White) including his criticism of Layla Moran's comments:

the party I would like to vote for is the Lib Dems, they are more liberal and more accepting of everyone as opposed to the Tories who only look after the top 1%

Green look decent too but a vote for them would be a wasted vote

but because they have so little chance now I just use strategic voting and vote for the Torie's opposition (Labour)

theOtherPamAyres · 15/01/2019 13:12

conservatives are the least bad (on this issue)

I disagree. The Conservatives have done more than any other party to introduce self i/d by stealth, during the Coalition, the Cameron Govt and the May governments. They are the ones who have funded pro-trans lobbies to train the public sector and advise the private sector.

They may be back-tracking now, but the horse has bolted. Their harmful policies will take a lot of unpicking. I doubt whether they are open to admitting that they have made a right pig's ear of women and childrens' rights.

They deserve to hear what women think about the Conservatives record.

traceyracer · 15/01/2019 13:24

with all due respect, when it comes to voting for a party we should take everything into account not just gender critical issues

theOtherPamAyres · 15/01/2019 13:30

The LibDems and the Greens

Both of these parties proclaim that TWAW. They are the most extreme pro-trans parties. Their written policies have been updated to remove such controversial words as 'women' and replaced them with 'people'.

Both parties believe that the decriminalisation of so-called sex-work is liberating. ("Blow Jobs are Real Jobs", according to green activists)

At the Lib Dems conference, councillors used abusive terms for women who were handing out Fairplay for Women leaflets about the risks to GRA. There were photos of the leaflets being put in the bin, triumphantly. At the Green Conference, the police were called because conference-goers felt that the three FPFW women handing out leaflets were distributing transphobic material and making the them feel unsafe.

Both of these parties expect to make a killing at local elections in May. They believe that they will benefit from a protest vote against Conservative and Labour handling of Brexit. They are not expecting the Woman Question to arise at all.

Both parties deserve to hear what women think about their record, their manifestos and the ignorance of basic safeguarding.

While it's called 'spoiling your ballot', it is actually a powerful political act

It really isn't. It may not even be looked at by the candidates unless the result was so close candidates wanted to scrutinise the spoiled papers to check their exclusion is valid.

It is especially powerful if loads of people do it. I intend to protest in this way at the local elections in May

It might have some effect on a party if a large number of voters did so all for the same reason.

LangCleg · 15/01/2019 14:10

with all due respect, when it comes to voting for a party we should take everything into account not just gender critical issues

Why? People can vote on whatever basis they like. With whatever red lines they like. Apparently, in a democracy, people are allowed to use their votes in different ways to the ones you think they should. Weird concept, I know.

R0wantrees · 15/01/2019 14:11

Its likely that some TRAs have had significant influence on these policies in both parties in similar ways.

THere is a very close relationship between Aimee Challenor and some LibDem trans rights activists.
AC & Sarah Brown (LibDem) hold positions on Stonewall's Trans Advisory Comittee.

In April 2018 there was a short period when it was believed by AC & others that The GP would be ending the role of LGBTQIA+ spokesperson.
LibeDem LGBT+ twitter offered immediate solidarity.
When Challenor left the Green Party claiming 'transphobia' she went straight to The LibDems and was given roles and opportunities by LGBT+ straight away.

I've seen many people saying they'd "never vote" (usually) Conservative.

Up till now, I'd never vote Labour.

But if on the twelfth of never, while hell was freezing over they came out and said "Women are Adult Humans and we stand by that and men will have to respect their boundaries and right to say no", my X would be on the ballot on a flash.

I may have to hold my nose a bit, but I'd do it.

nauticant · 15/01/2019 14:24

Well I'm from the other side CallMeSirShotsFired and hold a mirror image of your view. Pleased to make your acquaintance as a fellow non-tribalist.

userschmoozer · 15/01/2019 14:40

Taking everything into account there isnt anyone I can vote for so I will be voting for no one on my ballot paper.

A question for any Labour MP or candidate is whether Stephen Whittle, prominant and influential TRA, is correct in his assertions on FWR:

In the end we will pull ourselves together and continue the campaigning – as we have always done. We know we have Labour behind this one, so will simply do our best to get them elected. As I tell the community “we have always lost more battles than we have won, but we only ever need to win the big one”.

I hope that clarifies matters.

CaptainKirksSpookyghost · 15/01/2019 15:15

If labour get in there won't be a way of reversing this.

R0wantrees · 15/01/2019 15:16

Whilst The Conservative Party need to address the many issues with the Transgender Equality Inquiry led by Maria Miller MP as detailed by Professor Kathleen Stock:

& of course the issues with the NHS Safeguarding issues caused by the deliberate conflation of sex and gender:

with all due respect, when it comes to voting for a party we should take everything into account not just gender critical issues

Nah this is too fundamental to me, I'm prepared to vote solely on this issue in the next election. What good are policies that help women when 'woman' is a meaningless term?

2019StandingforWomen · 15/01/2019 15:22

If labour get into power we have had it and self ID will be implemented. I think our best chance lies with the Conservatives unfortunately. I visited my local Tory MP and he is strongly gender critical so I will be voting for him for the first time ever and I told my labour candidate that I won't be voting for him and why.

traceyracer · 15/01/2019 15:26

I have a disability so I won't be voting for a party (ie Conservative) who thinks people like me should just fend for ourselves and go jump in a lake while all the top bankers and the upper-classes benefit

LangCleg · 15/01/2019 15:32

Tracey - that's fine. If you want to be single issue voter with regard to disability rights, go for it. It's your right. As it is the right of other women to vote on their rights as women first and foremost.

LangCleg · 15/01/2019 15:34

Things are that bad that even I, old school proper leftist, could see myself voting for a one nation Tory party that was committed to preserving women's rights.

(Don't think I could unless the one nation types were in the ascendant though. Not voting for the Randian nutcases under any circumstances.)

CaptainKirksSpookyghost · 15/01/2019 15:35

It'll be Conservatives for me, solely because of this issue.

CallMeSirShotsFired · 15/01/2019 16:12

Let's just hope any Labour government that ever got in don't try and launch any initiatives to help disabled women then. Because Tracey won't get a look in.

ZuttZeVootEeeVro · 15/01/2019 16:22

If labour get into power we have had it and self ID will be implemented. I think our best chance lies with the Conservatives unfortunately.

I feel the same. My conservative MP wrote a very encouraging response to my concerns about changes to the GRA. He's never voted against the party, so I think there is hope that the conservative may not be determined to push it through.

irnbruforlife · 15/01/2019 16:45

I'm in Scotland and voting snp on the basis of Joan mcalpine. She's not my msp but gives me hope that snp hasn't been lost to transgender ideology.

SirVixofVixHall · 15/01/2019 17:10

Ok so labour - Madigan etc, etc
lib Dems - Challenor .
Greens - Challenor debacle .
Conservatives - Maria Miller .
Plaid Cymru for those in Wales ?
Conservatives seem to have more hope of more GC MPs possibly ?
I had such high hopes of the WEP. Sob.
