Living up to their name as usual.

Plenty of people calling them out about it on Twitter.

Given American history and conservative attitudes to anything grog related, it's bizarre that their licensing laws permit children into night clubs. Also weird as- the approval and celebrations of dancing boys who perform at night, for men, in highly sexualised , alcohol (and drug) infused environments . Is Desmond home-schooled or something?

And, I wonder no I don't why so many people (not here, I mean on other sites) are happily blaming the mother but have nothing to say about the rather...interesting father who's just as eager about it all.

GeordieGenes · 20/04/2019 18:21

I wonder if they're looking fo an "I am Jazz" type show? Sad

StopThePlanet · 20/04/2019 18:50

DancingRaven

I love that song by Hole (written by Kurt apparently)

That's a common misconception - Kurt did backup vocals for studio recording (so he somehow was thought to have written it) but Courtney Love and Eric Erlandson (lead guitarist) co-wrote the song (and many others). Smile

their licensing laws permit children into night clubs

The laws vary by state but as a general rule, children are not allowed in establishments that serve alcohol unless they also serve food. Even if said establishment serves food if it is considered a nightclub/bar children are not permitted after a certain time in most states - children are not permitted in nightclubs/bars at all in some states.

Laws are even more varied when it comes to child performers. Here are NY's (for Desmond's Three Dollar Bill performance perspective).

New York (as per US Dept of Labor)
Updated Jan 2019

Models under 18 need permit from educational authorities/ Performer 16-17 needs employment certificate/ performers under 16 need permit from mayor or chief executive

To obtain certificates and permits need: written parental consent (exceptions for emancipated children), proof of age, and a certificate of physical fitness; separate procedures are in effect for New York City and for the remainder of the State. Sec. 7-7.1 Estates, Powers and Trusts Law - Courts may require a portion of earnings be set aside for the minor in a trust.

Considering the aforementioned, I wonder if his parents (1) obtained a permit from mayor or chief executive as he is under 16 and (2) followed protocol according to NYC re: physical fitness certificate etc.?

Badgerthebodger · 20/04/2019 20:55

StopThePlanet would I be correct in assuming the mayor of NY is pretty woke? Because if so, I can see why this might be waved through without too many questions asked. This poor kid though Sad always looking so tired and so thin. It really upsets me to see a child who isn’t allowed to be a child. I mean, does he have any time to just run around a park? Watch a film with his friends? Does he have any friends his age? I’m not seeing any evidence he does. Horrible, horrible situation. It’s watching, at best, child neglect in action. At worst, it’s full on child abuse and sexual exploitation. I think his parents ought to be in prison.

"Also weird as- the approval and celebrations of dancing boys who perform at night, for men, in highly sexualised , alcohol (and drug) infused environments . Is Desmond home-schooled or something?"

What has that got to do with being home schooled? (I don't know if he is.)

AnotherBewilderedQuoll · 20/04/2019 21:18

Yeah I realised how weird that looked as soon as it posted. I was just thinking about Desmond performing at nightclubs, which would mean keeping him out quite late for a kid his age, and how that impacts his schooling, or if he's pineapples and so able to be more flexible about bedtime and study hours. .

AnotherBewilderedQuoll · 20/04/2019 21:21

Oh good grief! "pineapples" = homeschooled, (autoincorrected)

LassOfFyvie · 20/04/2019 22:05

That's an impressive autocucumber !

I feel slightly bad for pointing this out but Desmond isn't, actually, amazing. His dancing and cabaret skills are non- existent. He would not get a look in at a genuine stage school. The only amazing thing about him is his apeing of adult sexualised behaviour.
