'Michelle's' experience described in an interview today is very moving and powerful.
She describes how the voices of the partners, wives and children of men who transition are silenced.
Its a very eloquent and nuanced discussion & important listening.
Flowers 'Michelle'

'Yesterday and today we look at the impact of the decision to Transition on marriage and family relationships. Yesterday we heard from Stephanie Jones when she transitioned from male to female and became, as she describes it, a "stranger in her own home". Today we hear from Michele whose ex-husband transitioned after they had been married for 16 years.'

I hope someone transcribes her words

That was very moving. This kind of thing is entirely outside my own experience but the way 'Michelle' spoke about it was very reminiscent of threads I've seen on Relationships here where a broken-hearted woman is trying to make sense of her life after discovering or being told that her husband has been having an affair or where someone has found out about a long-standing family secret. The same feeling that everything she thought she knew about her life has been a lie, compounded by the self-absorbed utter selfishness of the person who's blown everything apart to get what they want, with scant regard for how it will affect everyone around them. Shattering, especially when children are involved.

Thank you, Pencils.

pencils yet again you've earned your user name! Thanks x

I was thinking about Amanda Knox's story ...not the one who murdered that girl in Italy, but the one who's child transitioned, followed by her husband, where upon she realised she'd been a lesbian all along! Amazing!

Plus side is she's got a big twitter following and is writing books about it. She's an absolute zealot.

I just can't imagine flicking a switch on my sexuality like that, but I guess we are all different.

OrchidInTheSun · 09/01/2019 17:26

Thank you pencils - that's brilliant.

Kat - I think that Amanda Jette Knox is angling for a reality TV deal.

heresyandwitchcraft · 09/01/2019 18:51

Thank you so much, Pencils. Flowers

PencilsInSpace · 09/01/2019 19:18

Would you post the transcript on the Trans Widows thread please Pencils ?

Of course Smile

PencilsInSpace · 09/01/2019 19:24

yy Bittermints except that when a woman's world is turned upside down by her partner's infidelity she can expect a bit of sympathy and understanding, she's not expected to join in with cheering him on and admiring his stunning bravery Sad

OlennasWimple · 09/01/2019 21:40

Fantastic job, Pencils

BeUpStanding · 09/01/2019 22:23

Me too

FloralBunting · 09/01/2019 23:16

Ugh, that Knox woman gives me the irrits. It's sort of like what is going on psychologically with the Mermaids founder - did something horrendous to her child and must create a protected narrative to justify at all costs.
Only with Knox it's her husband now being a woman, and therefore Knox is a lesbian now, and not only does she understand all about being a lesbian now, she must insist that any actual lesbian at least think about cock to prop up her little fantasy justification.

It would be tragic if she wasn't an appalling homophobe spreading that shit all over Twitter and thus removing all my sympathy.

TinselAngel · 09/01/2019 23:47

I see there's a clip on the Woman's Hour Website of the Trans Woman's Story, but not of the trans widow's story, this making it more difficult to share.

Why are do many into dominatrixes / and post their fetish (with pics) all over likes of twitter. Can’t say I’ve used one myself or any of my friendd (that i know of.

NewYearsNiamh · 10/01/2019 09:31

Thanks Pencils.

Gosh Michelle is amazing. That side of the story needs to be heard SO much more.

R0wantrees · 10/01/2019 10:09

Intersting that Woman's Hour is now discussing HRT (that's Hormone Replacement Therapy) for women which is used to allieviate menopausal symptoms.

(this is not the same as cross sex-hormone treatment)

What a truly horrific thing for all those families to go through. The sheer arrogance and all-about-me-ness of the men involved is astounding.

I am amazed by the bravery of those who are putting their stories. It is vital that all the voices involved are heard.

Lucky222 · 10/01/2019 23:33

Thanks for this, came on Mumsnet specifically to find it. It's a bit hidden on the Woman's hr website, no mention of topic in video title.

Mner2019 · 11/01/2019 07:39

Ironic that Michelle is on there talking about being silenced but isn’t mentioned on the accompanying blurb to the program..

Is the clip of her interview up yet?
Tinsel pointed out that the segment from the day before with the male perspective of the breakdown of a marriage was available but 'Michele's' was not.
As the clips can be shared as stand-alone they are really useful for sharing.
Hopefully WH will recify this and make both perspectives equally accessible.

I was surprised to see the thread discussing Sue Donym's article about ''The Elephant in the Room' being deleted by Mumsnet for 'not being civil'.
'Michele' was able as a result of her professional background to identify that her husband was an autogynaephile.
This was very relevent in her case and it seems also in many of the personal stories on the 'transwidows' threads.
