“Feminist = a person who believes in & stands up for the political, economic, and social equality of human beings.”

Women-the only disadvantaged group not allowed to centre themselves in their fight for liberation.

The comments on Twitter are fairly encouraging though.
If you take women out of feminism, what you are left with is not feminism.

Gronky · 08/01/2019 10:24

I think it's a rather good definition in terms of undermining the misogynists because it casts their vitriol as being anti human rights, a very difficult position to argue from. Otherwise, they could cloak their rhetoric as being from a position of supporting the rights of men.

Human Beings.
WOMEN / FEMALES SURELY ?

womanformallyknownaswoman · 08/01/2019 13:58

I really think we need to go back to calling it Women's Liberation, there's zero ambiguity as to the target group then.

This!!

NameChangeForTheNewYear · 08/01/2019 14:50

Jesus wept. How can anyone post a definition of feminism that doesn't mention women or girls and think that's okay?

If only these organisations would put their interns back in the post room and on coffee duty. I'm sure a lot of this Twitter garbage is because young woke kids with zero life experience are being given free reign on social media.

I wonder if perhaps the concept '“Feminist = a person who believes in & stands up for the political, economic, and social equality of human beings.' might come across differently to someone from one of the many cultures in the world where women are second class citizens (if even that!) - in that context I suppose the concept of treating all humans as equal might be radical.

Feminism (obviously) means a lot more, but it needs that basic foundation principle in place doesn't it?

PositivelyPERF · 08/01/2019 15:15

I couldn’t agree more, Melanippe. We need a few tee shirts with the definition of feminism on them AND a few with Women’s liberation.

ErrolTheDragon · 08/01/2019 15:23

Do people in general (and misogynists in particular) actually understand what 'women's liberation' means though, and why it's still necessary?

CharlyAngelic · 08/01/2019 16:50

It is only going to get worse with all this self identifying .

Knicknackpaddyflak · 08/01/2019 17:30

Ah. I see the group we're not supposed to be able to identify, the name of which is apparently too dirty to put in print, have now been made responsible for the social needs and equity of the entire human race.

Good luck with that said biological females, walking away from the UN.

HQ we're going to need bigger eye roll emoticons.

CharlyAngelic · 08/01/2019 18:23

I have already self ID ‘d as Spartacus on several threads . Joke of course.
Women have fought for a long time for rights such as voting.
In some countries they have just been allowed to drive.
In some countries they are not allowed an education.
So excuse me , I am an old person !
An “invisible “ according to some author in the media today .
Would you like to self ID as a person that has no rights?
A person that is invisible?
Some biological females have fought hard for many years . All biological females and any other human of any ID is very welcome to help us continue in the recognition of social equality.

PositivelyPERF · 08/01/2019 18:31

Ironically, a year after the UN have been accused of turning a blind eye sexual harassment and assaults of women in it’s offices around the world, they now erase the word women from the definition of feminist.
