Trans Fundraising Appeals

What do people think about all the charity appeals for trans surgery on Gofundme and similar sites popping up? I was on a facebook group that is just for silly jokes, nothing serious, and then someone posted a link to a Gofundme for one of the mods. I won’t link it, but I actually thought it was a joke as it was literally titled “Donate a French-Canadian vajayjay” to [name]. With a picture of Spongebob and a rainbow saying VAGINA. Nope, it is serious. They claim they can’t get funding in Australia so need $30000 to get it done in Quebec. I was discussing it elsewhere and it was pointed out to me that there IS funding available in Australia for this type of surgery, which made me wonder if it was a scam, or if the person was considered unsuitable for some reason. I think they have as much right as anyone else to ask people to donate regardless of the reason.

It's up to members of the public to decide what they wish to contribute to.

In countries where GRS is available for free I'd hazard a guess that there is some fairly significant gatekeeping to ensure that it is being provided to those with gender dysphoria rather than a fetish.

So can you really just rock up to a surgeon with a wad of money and ask for such an operation? Just curious. People beg on social media for all sorts these days.
