Godfrey's new column on gender. I don't like Louis CK, but I think that Godfrey's reaction is pretty funny. His previous two columns are worth checking out too.

I must say though, Titania McGrath is easily just as good as Godfrey!

Love Titania. Cheered up my end of December when the rest of the world seemed mad

hackmum · 06/01/2019 12:21

Can’t spell Thelonious Monk, though.

Bluestitch · 06/01/2019 12:24

Titiana is brilliant, tbh I thought it was Godfrey with a new identity. The tweet yesterday about Rachel McKinnon was fab. Notice the TRAs are very quiet, obviously know better than to put themselves on the receiving end of her wit and show themselves even more humourless and ridiculous than everybody already thinks.

Bluestitch · 06/01/2019 12:29

I actually saw a genuine TRA account recently dismiss a relative as an LGBT ally because although she helped nurse and care for several gay men with Aids during the 80s she is thoughtless about pronoun use. I thought it must be a spoof but alas not. No wonder these parodies have so much material to work with!

PositivelyPERF · 06/01/2019 12:31

it’s not rocket surgery 🤣

Knicknackpaddyflak · 06/01/2019 12:36

not an LGBT ally

Yeah that one was thrown at me by a TM teenager, who had benefitted hugely from the resources and a lot of additional individual support within the LGBT group I had been running for ten years. My crime? Asking them nicely to stick to the group rules every other LGBT person in the group did.

At the time I was devastated. These days I'm more au fait with 'LGBT ally' actually meaning 'unconditionally T indulgent'.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 06/01/2019 12:38

Can't spell The Monk correctly but can sneak in an Eye if the Tiger lyric beautifully 😊

NotTerfNorCis · 06/01/2019 12:55

it’s not rocket surgery

Hahahaha.

DisrespectfulAdultFemale · 06/01/2019 13:05

Great column.

hackmum · 06/01/2019 13:14

Didn't realise that Godfrey had previously been banned from Twitter. Satire is no laughing matter, clearly.

Godfrey was brilliant on Twitter, I'm not on there so much now but did notice he'd gone - didn't realise it was a ban though.

Terfing · 06/01/2019 13:27

Fun fact about Godfrey: he's actually played by a woman!

OP posts:
terryleather · 06/01/2019 13:40

That makes me love him even more!

dworky · 06/01/2019 14:33

Godfrey started funny but the woman behind the account gradually revealed her nasty self, retweeting racist memes & encouraging pile-ons.

AngryAttackKittens · 06/01/2019 15:01

When dealing with pompous fuckwits humour is the most effective weapon.

Biscuit

From the article, I loved "(‘I’ve been secretly putting hormone blockers in my nephew’s Dairylea Lunchables for the past few months. She’ll thank me for it in a few years, you mark my words.’)"

AngryAttackKittens · 06/01/2019 17:28

The Lunchables bit was genius for sure - it should be too much to be taken seriously, but then you think of some of the absurd things that have turned out to be true...

Freespeecher · 06/01/2019 18:36

Remember when Godfrey managed to get a spoof article published in the Guardian? It was retweeted approvingly by Glenn Greenwald and Mo Ansar before he 'fessed up.

www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2016/nov/28/alt-right-online-poison-racist-bigot-sam-harris-milo-yiannopoulos-islamophobia

(Also, I seem to remember that it was originally a guy behind Godfrey- Lisa Graves took over for the reboot - I think - and now does Titania McGrath. Humour is always the kryptonite to the brittle, joyless, enforced belief systems that we're all trying to counter at the mo).

Wauden · 06/01/2019 18:45

Thanks for the laughs Grin

dworky · 06/01/2019 20:01

Yeah, who cares about children being mocked for their race? She's funny so it doesn't matter, right?

Terfing · 07/01/2019 01:47

@dworky

I didn't know that Sad

Can you point out/ re-post what he said that was racist? I didn't see it.

OP posts:
AnyOldPrion · 07/01/2019 09:51

it’s not rocket surgery.

Nor is it brain science.

Just sayin’

Wink
nauticant · 07/01/2019 09:53

retweeting racist memes

Yes, I'd also be interested in this.

theOtherPamAyres · 07/01/2019 10:01

@dwork

Whoooooosh! (The sound of something flying right over over your head).

DisrespectfulAdultFemale · 07/01/2019 12:58

The other, my suggestion is to scroll past stupidity rather than to engage with it.

The big advantage of doing so means that the thread is less likely to derail.
