Native women have been standing for election since the early nineties but this is their first sucess, nice they got a double win. Quote from article by one of the winners,
“Seventy years ago, Native Americans right here in New Mexico couldn’t vote,” Haaland told supporters at a rally Tuesday night.
Land of the free hasn't always been as brilliant as it likes to think it is (nor us Diego Garcia anyone?) Last year I read "Killers of the Flower Moon: The Osage Murders and the Birth of the FBI" by David Grann which is an excellent if disturbing account of power, corruption and greed in early 1920s America.
