More and more frequently I am seeing SOGI (sexual orientation and gender identity) being used as a replacement for LGBTQ++++++++++
in governmental and human rights references
If you think about how 'gender identity' is a huge catch all umbrella that has widened and replaced the term 'transexual' and all the laws and provisions that were designed specifically for that tiny group - well the SO bit is likely to do the same for what was previously a very specific and easily (until GI got involved) defined description of gay, lesbian and bisexual.
It is a very dangerous term because fetishes, paraphilias and sexual behavious are increasingly seeming to be being pushed as a 'sexual orientation' - we have seen evidence of this with people like James Cantor this week suggesting that the 'P' or the MAPS are a sexual orientation, and I fear that the public has already had the paths cleared because of the worry about kinkshaming and mainstream acceptance that extreme BSDM is normal everyday sexual practice.
If something like paedophilia is recognised as a sexual orientation, then it will be job done, because they will have rights and protection under any policy that uses the term SOGI.
