A call for action.

Apologies in advance, I can't figure out how to do links on my phone.

I was on a thread in relationships titled The mum who has gone into hiding it's regarding Ellie Yarrow Sanders.

I said on that thread that women are routinely abused by the system.

Men who get away with not paying child maintenance.
How difficult it is to get a rape conviction.
Women being murdered and it's called a sex game gone wrong.

We also have the TRA MRA issue.

Male violence (in all it's forms) against women is at epidemic levels and I feel like we need to protest en masse.

I don't know how to go about starting any action, which is why I'm posting here.

You are all so wise and knowledgeable and I'm hoping that maybe we could start something?

I'm not as articulate and intelligent as everyone on the FWR threads, so I'm hoping we can come together and figure something out.

Enough now.

As Posie is saying, Women Stand Up

Thank you in advance for any ideas, help and support you come up with.

Absolutely behind you.

finnmcool · 04/01/2019 18:54

Thanks Jeremy, this abuse of women cannot be allowed to continue.

I'm so angry about this Ellie Yarrow Sanders case I can't bear it. I can't bear the injustice.

What can we do? We need to do SOMETHING.

There is a war on women and no one cares.

ToeToToe · 04/01/2019 19:56

I can't bear the injustice either. I hope she can stay hidden. Would they know if she'd left the country?

I've signed the petition.

finnmcool · 04/01/2019 19:58

This is why I've posted here asking for help and ideas.

I don't know if lobbying, protesting, or a petition is the best course of action.

I don't know how to start something, but enough now.

I feel like a lot of women I know have reached their limit and we need to Collectively stand up and say no.

OP posts:
finnmcool · 04/01/2019 20:01

Ideally, I would like to Collectively challenge all the abuses that our government and judicial system allow women to be subjected to.

How about a 1 day national strike?

I'm so with you

nomorearsingmermaids · 04/01/2019 20:15

I don't know if lobbying, protesting, or a petition is the best course of action.

We need something more now. I don't know what, but something.

Jux · 04/01/2019 20:25

I can't strike - unemployed. If I can afford the train fare to London I'd march though; we know Governments ignore marches alone, but maybe combine a strike with a march?

I have some idea that if a strike is official then you don't lose pay. That could make a significant difference to women being able to strike. Is it possible that a Union could be formed to represent women who work? I doubt that idea's a runner.

newtlover · 04/01/2019 20:30

I can't find the thread, can you link?

finnmcool · 04/01/2019 20:45

Jux I like the idea of a combined march and strike.
Sadly, you are right, marches are ignored by government.

Complete pie in the sky, but is there a possibility of a group civil action for repeated abuse of women because of government policy and inaction? Child maintenance springs to mind there.
The fact that men feel emboldened and enabled to rape and murder women because of the way the judicial system is set up?

OP posts:
finnmcool · 04/01/2019 20:47

newtlover sorry, I just can't figure out how to link it.
It's still showing up in my watched list with the title I gave and it's in relationships.

Above is the link to Ellie's letter.

Here's the MN thread.

Carowiththegoodhair · 04/01/2019 21:32

If she should see this, I have already posted on social media that I believe her. Discussing this with DH and we agreed that if we came across her we would give her money and help her in any way we could.

I hope she has access to the help and support she needs.

Carowiththegoodhair · 04/01/2019 21:40

Also meant to say that the press coverage and attitude of the judge has made me see red. Even without reading her letter you can tell what a loving mum she is. The age gap and condescending language rang alarm bells. The letter made it all slot into place.

DoggusSausageous · 07/01/2019 21:32

BBC London on Saturday night broadcast a long interview with the father, all about how he was missing Ollie 'just wanted him home' - they said Ellie had left a letter but the BBC reporter having gone on about the Dad missing him made not one single solitary reference to any of the contents of the letter or the father's alledged abuse.

Just showed pictures of Ellie, and went on about how Ollie needed to come home. A man-hunt against Ellie.

I am writing to the BBC to complain.

newtlover · 07/01/2019 21:36

shocking

I am very worried though how she will survive and get the services she needs for her son if she is on the run- how would she register with a GP/school?

theOtherPamAyres · 07/01/2019 22:05

I'm hoping that women and their allies will turn up to vote at the local elections in May and protest through the ballot box.

No-one's expecting it.

To make any impact, it would have to be an organised, covert and peaceful protest - even if it's just designing and using #stickystickerstostickontheballotform Grin

You're right - action is called for.

MrsSnippyPants · 07/01/2019 22:35

There are so many fronts to fight on at the moment. Perhaps it is time for something like this:

en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/1975_Icelandic_women%27s_strike

Purplewithgreenspots · 07/01/2019 22:39

Not sure about the being paid if its an official strike. When I was encouraged to join my union I said that I couldn’t afford to go on strike and this was accepted rather than corrected.
Direct action and lobbying your MP is a good way to go, as is getting in touch with women’s groups such as Object.
