Regarding whether people prefer male or female vocalists.

Already lots of 'women are screechy' comments.

This is a bit of an exaggeration. There is one poster who used screechy. I didn't see anyone else using it.

One poster said I really don’t like high pitched folky voices like Joni Mitchell or the dreadful breathy voices that are in vogue these days like Ellie Goulding

I suppose whoever said that could just have said "breathy voices" as there are men (Nick Drake, Passenger, Børns) who could be described as "breathy" but on the whole it a female vocalists who use that technique.

The split between preferring male and female is about equal.

Personally I find the premise of the thread very odd indeed (and tbh more indicative of limited taste in and knowledge of music than anything else)
