I’m not big on making feminist points, but just been to see Bumblebee, and it’s the best Transformers movie by miles. Female lead who is well written, acted and likeable. Doesn’t to my uneducated eyes seem to be ramming any particular agenda down anyone’s throat. Simply is fun action movie, with a little bit of heart. Figured some of you guys might appreciate a watch, and it deserves to do well.

Cool, thanks. What age is it?

Sounds great. I was a big Transformers fan when I was younger. Really pleased to hear it's got a good female lead.

Dd has been very fond of bumblebee for a few years now

She even has the soft toy

It does have the nerdy next door neighbour who creeps on the main character and is rewarded for doing so to add completely unnecessary "romance" to the movie so male transformer nerds have someone to identify with.

This video is a good rundown on this movie trope

Yeah except she STILL knocks him back at the end when he goes to hold her hand with a “we’re not quite there yet” so it pretty much stays unrequited the whole movie. I’d actually say that earns it a pass. It’s a PG btw. Oh plus she’s a mechanic! Although ‘‘twas directed by a man the script was written by a woman. Not that that makes much difference to me but I know it may for some.

Too old for a 5.5 year old?

noblegiraffe · 02/01/2019 21:01

They say ‘shit’ twice and a couple of men get blasted by robots and explode in a pile of goo. There’s also lots of intense fighting between robots with explosions and a woman accuses a man of trying to sleep with her sister.

I was glad I didn’t take my 5 year old, but my 9 year old loved it.

cheminotte · 02/01/2019 21:07

Ooh thanks. Maybe we’ll see that instead of Spider-Man then.

So pleased to hear this as DH took our two sons to see this film.

AspieAndProud · 02/01/2019 22:01

I preordered the 4k steelbook edition from HMV. Not sure whether HMV will last that long though. This makes me sad.

Italiangreyhound · 02/01/2019 23:43

Going to see it Saturday.
