Today i've received 'Woman - An intimate geography' by Natalie Angier, a bottle of Welsh toffee vodka and 2 woolly vests (as i'm often cold).

Nothing bar a jumper I picked out. Delighted!

Last year I was rather put out by the gender stereotypical token gifts given out by my bil and sil when they came to stay and decided I just didn't want any more gifts at Xmas ever.

birdsdestiny · 26/12/2018 08:13

I got the jenni murray book and a 'posie' bag, but I put dh through the radicalisation portal some time agoSmile.

teawamutu · 26/12/2018 09:50

I got Circe too, without even asking for it. Dh has also absorbed the feminism bootcamp messages nicely. Smile

Urbanbeetler · 26/12/2018 10:19

Thoughtful gifts reflecting what I actually wanted, not what he wanted or thought I should want.

This book. The colour of time.

What's very striking is how, just by adding colour to black and white photos they become so much more real. You can look at some and imagine yourself there in a way you can't with black and white photos. It makes historical events seem uncomfortably much more close and focuses your mind about how the future is likely to be a lot less nice than you'd like.

It's not made me terribly cheery. Just more aware of how much needs to be done to stop tragedy. And how far we are from ever really managing that.

It's a fabulous book.

MsMcWoodle · 26/12/2018 11:46

Thanks tea. I think I will treat myself.

HumourlessFeminist · 26/12/2018 12:57

Oh, I'm ordering some of these, and requesting some from the library 🙂.

hackmum · 26/12/2018 13:02

Enjoy Circe - I loved it.

DP gave me a biography of Joni Mitchell, which I’m really enjoying. (He hasn’t seen Love, Actually, so I’m not going to point it out to him. Grin)

A new bird table ( old one blew over in a storm and smashed)
History of the World in 21 Women by Dame Jenni Murray.
Women and Power- a manifesto by MAry Beard.
Some nice Christmas chocolates and Teas of the World.

Nobody fell out, nobody was in tears, everybody seemed content.

Hallelujah! A successful, peaceful Christmas!

Colour of Time sounds very interesting.

RedToothBrush · 26/12/2018 13:16

@marinamaral2 is the colourist for the colour of time. I highly recommend her as a twitter follow. She frequently posts some of her coloured photos and some of the story behind them.

Bumblebee39 · 26/12/2018 13:17

The gift of independence! This year I cooked my first Xmas dinner!

My brother bought a Why We March book for me (images of placards from the Women's March) and a Posie hoodie.

Theonewithabanyinasling · 26/12/2018 13:54

A pair of very practical shoes.

MrsWooster · 26/12/2018 13:54

Oooh! I came to say nothing, but actually got Circe from my mum. I dismissed it as a mum-present, to be consigned to the charity shop after a decent interval but might actually trouble myself to look at it properly Now!

hackmum · 26/12/2018 15:04

MrsWooster: what is so awful about a mum present?

HumourlessFeminist · 26/12/2018 20:03

I can really recommend Nasty Women if anyone is looking for a feminist-y book to read this year - it's a collection of essays by various authors.

Payfrozen · 26/12/2018 21:11

Anyone read Feminists Don't Wear Pink? Gift from DH.
Got artisan gin from my mum.

HumourlessFeminist · 26/12/2018 23:42

Payfrozen, I think I heard it talked about on the Guilty Feminist podcast. It sounded good I think - I love reading or hearing about what feminism means to different women. It's really helping me to get a handle on what feminism means to me.

drspouse · 27/12/2018 09:11

Some good book suggestions here!

HumourlessFeminist · 27/12/2018 09:41

Payfrozen, this is the link to the Guilty Feminist podcast that I mentioned:

Payfrozen · 27/12/2018 11:08

Aw thanks. I will have a look. I could just read the book. Grin

ImogenTubbs · 27/12/2018 11:19

I got an illuminated globe on a stand (wanted one for ages), some posh make-up and some slippers. Very happy with quality over quantity approach to gifts this year. Some lovely things I really wanted but not too much STUFF.

Iused2BanOptimist · 27/12/2018 11:25

Teen adores the £1 clicky fiddle toy in her stocking.
The gorgeous fur (fake obv) lined waterproof jacket from Whistles...not so much. HmmEnvy

dragongirlx · 27/12/2018 12:18

I got some badges with historical suffragette slogans on that have joined the man Friday badges on the rucksack I use for work and a copy of the Jo Brand book - Born Lippy.
Even though I don't agree with Jo on everything I did enjoy the book.

I also loved Circe. Its on sale for just over £1 on kindle just now if anyone is interested
