Want to be Politically active - despairing over which party

I'm probably naturally a Libdem or Green - as a radish femenist have issues with both parties. I want in the face of brexit and the Tories to become a member of a party again. Are you still a member of a mainstream party and how do you square your rad fem ideals?

No, previously labour then SGP. Neither believe being female has any relevance to womanhood or feminism. All the parties seem to support newspeak and the "hatecrime" "wrongthink" legislation

starcrossedseahorse · 24/12/2018 21:30

I was Labour (Green sometimes) and am now homeless politically.

I will not vote for any party that is throwing women under the bus regardless of whatever the hell else is going on.

WSPU · 24/12/2018 23:04

It’s a dilemma I think a lot of us face. I left Labour over it and feel bereft as was very active. I’ll be spoiling my balot paper next time I think. Never thought I’d see the day.

MaderiaCycle · 24/12/2018 23:09

LD. Left after the Lord Rennard debacle (google it if you need), came back post-Brexit. I figure you have to pick the closest to you. And LD is closest for me especially at the moment

Terfing · 24/12/2018 23:10

Sadly, I think the let wing has been lost to this. They're tripping over themselves to see who can be the most woke.

The right wingers are the only ones that aren't having this. Sad

teawamutu · 24/12/2018 23:25

After voting Labour my entire adult life I think I'm going to have to spoil my ballot paper, too.

I hate the idea but I'm not voting for any party that can't be sensible on Brexit and doesn't know what a woman is.

Voice0fReason · 24/12/2018 23:35

Another lost voter here.
I cannot vote for any of the parties I would normally support.
Libdems, Labour, Greens & WEP have all thrown women under the bus.

ErrolTheDragon · 24/12/2018 23:48

I hate the idea but I'm not voting for any party that can't be sensible on Brexit and doesn't know what a woman is.

Are any of them being sensible on brexit and do any still know what a woman is? Confused

Urgh. Given they're all much of a muchness on the latter, then I guess whoever seems least worst on the former plus whoever seems least likely to exacerbate the UKs problems (I can't see Corbyn/McDonnell being anything other than financially disastrous on top of everything else).

PersonaNonGarter · 24/12/2018 23:55

The Tories have been consumed by Brexit.

But give them a chance - they lives and breathe in the real world and aren’t faux-equality: they genuinely do value women etc, not lefty lip service.

Missingstreetlife · 24/12/2018 23:57

They are all shit. Labour have more idea about poverty, which affects women, green and liberal rather middle class.
Single issue for me ATM, women's place, fair play, other campaigns on housing, benefits.

teawamutu · 25/12/2018 00:03

If you find one, do let me know. I understand the Women's Equality Party is ok on Brexit but a bit fuzzy on what a woman is. Ffs.

WrathofRancidKlopp · 25/12/2018 00:12

In another election,
I will ask if the candidate if they think TWAW
If they say yes, then I won't be voting for them.
Simples

LauraMipsum · 25/12/2018 00:19

I’m a member of WEP but noticed my Christmas email from them was from Sandi and Catherine. No mention of Sophie. If they’ve binned her as soon as she (kindly, calmly) mentioned that perhaps, possibly, gender isn’t a great system for women then I will be really pissed off with them.

Miffer · 25/12/2018 00:22

But give them a chance - they lives and breathe in the real world and aren’t faux-equality: they genuinely do value women etc, not lefty lip service

Yes, they do value women and are all for equality. That's why austerity equally affects men and women... Oh. Wait.

Also give them a chance? They have been in power for 8 fucking years.

Try the "I side with" quiz, it's quite helpful. I very much doubt many on here will share my political views, which have changed considerably over the last five years. But the site is useful as a tool.

Very good and comprehensive quiz, but it says I'm Lib Dem. There wasn't a 'what is a woman' question.

starcrossedseahorse · 25/12/2018 12:33

LDs have welcomed in woman hater Challenor haven't they?

starcrossedseahorse · 25/12/2018 12:53

And I have just come out as LD on the I Side With site! Hmmm.

HamiltonCork · 25/12/2018 12:58

I’ve really no idea who to vote for. I’m naturally floating voter but I’ll be fucked if I’m giving my vote to anyone who can’t define what a woman is.

Terfing · 25/12/2018 13:15

Sadly, UKIP are the only party that have firmly stood against self-Id.

ApplejackCriesOnTheInside · 25/12/2018 13:27

I'm anti-Brexit and pro-women's rights so politically homeless. Planning to spoil my ballot paper for the first time ever. Friends say the same. Astonishing to be in this position given how totally mainstream those views are.

HamiltonCork · 25/12/2018 13:31

I might spoil my paper too. So upsetting for me as I take having the vote very seriously but I just can’t vote for any party that will happily sign away women’s rights. I feel like I’m in some sort of nightmare.

Nicknamesalltaken · 25/12/2018 13:32

Can’t vote Green with their ‘non-men’ bullshit.
Can’t vote Lib Dem’s - look at their twitter feed bullshit.
Can’t vote Tory - bullshitters.
Don’t want to vote Labour, misogynist party. Handed my membership back.

Not voting at all goes against the grain.

My labour MP has been very good on an issue I took up with him recently so there’s a flicker of light there.

Inclined, with great sadness, to spoil my ballot paper Sad
