Is there a way to find out which schools Mermaids do 'training' at?

Really want to make sure my children's school isn't one of them.

That is how GIRES are normalising lady penises - to school children.

FamilyOfAliens · 24/12/2018 17:26

If you think that’s bad, you should see the GIRES online training for school staff.

The only way I could progress through it to the end was by giving bullshit answers. It’s seriously flawed training but it’s the only resource available for school staff.

There is no way Mermaids would come within a hundred miles of our school while I’m working there - I’m a safeguarding lead and my head trusts me on this as she knows how well informed I am about the issues (thank you, mumsnet Smile)

Grim. Grubby. Awful.

Is the PTA a way forward? Raising the issue of gender identity and asking general questions to gauge how the school is approaching the issue?

feministfairy · 24/12/2018 19:16

The Gires online training tells teachers to keep a child's disclosures secret - from everyone! Even a primary child. Professionally dangerous.

Sponsored by the National Lottery...of course

Mermaids (according to its website) received a grant from the Department of Education to "deliver training into 36 schools by 2019".

I've forgotten the proper terms, but PTAs can be for raising funds and / or for co-ordinating parent feedback. So, it depends what kind of PTA your child's school has - mine is for raising funds only.

I’m surprised and disappointed to see the goodschoolsguide website promote Mermaids:

That link has pretty offensive generalisations about children with autism. I'd be interested to see if their research behind their claims is credible or if it's all just assumptions.

It is horrendous! WTAF?
