Just received:

Thank you for your message, below, in relation to the naming of the Dame Jenni Murray Lecture Theatre.

Over the last two weeks much feedback has been received - from staff, students, alumni and members of the community – on this issue. We have reviewed and listened to all the comments received and this has helped to inform our final decision on the naming of the lecture theatre and our approach to inclusivity in general.

The University of Hull has decided to retain Dame Jenni’s name for the lecture theatre. The original rationale remains strong and for many Dame Jenni is a role model and an inspiration.

As a University striving to accelerate our equality, diversity and inclusion agenda, we are committed to using this situation as a point of learning and will continue in constructive dialogue with the trans community on campus to ensure that we continue to develop an environment to foster learning, collaboration and action in supporting a more inclusive and supportive environment for all.

Best wishes for the Festive Season,

Susan

I just came on to post about this 🙂! Great news.

This is interesting wording:
we are committed to using this situation as a point of learning

Round of applause for Hull Uni! Yorkshire common sense triumphs over woke nonsense.
So relieved to see that not all academic institutions have drunk the Kool Aid.

BoreOfWhabylon · 20/12/2018 09:23

Oh that IS good news!

whoop whoop!!

today is my last work day of 2018 and this has put me in an even better mood if that were possible

ErrolTheDragon · 20/12/2018 09:29

supporting a more inclusive and supportive environment for all.

Good, I hope they can find a way to be supportive of their 'trans community' (and even more perhaps, trans people who don't feel part of a community) and also of women.

BlindYeo · 20/12/2018 09:29

Excellent!

Sense and courage.

I hope Jenni Murray herself is chuffed too.

Lawlsie1976 · 20/12/2018 09:29

Excellent news. Common sense prevails. And Murray is indeed a great role model and a truly inspirational woman.

Happy Christmas everyone X

milkmoustache · 20/12/2018 09:30

That has really cheered me up!

Needmoresleep · 20/12/2018 09:30

The power of emails...

BigLottery reviewing Mermaids funding, the balanced BBC Womans Hour series, and now this...

It seemed hard to know what to do. Yes contribute to Posie's poster and a donation to Transgender Trend. Sign relevent petitions. Request LAWS leggings for Christmas and subscribe to the Times/Spectator.

And write emails. 83% of the country are on side. Good sensible emails demonstrate this. The more decisions are pushed back, the fewer bad ones that will be made in the future.

Lawlsie1976 · 20/12/2018 09:32

I wrote a long email to my MP - who's in the cabinet and is an ally of May. Got a very sympathetic response which said I'd made some good points. It is worth writing to them. They do take notice and we need to make our voices heard.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 20/12/2018 09:33

That's great news! Little by little the push back is happening.

Mumfun · 20/12/2018 09:40

Got same email, Great news. Kudos to University of Hull for taking all views into account and considering the issue properly. And having the thought and organisation to reply properly to those who contacted them.

LizzieSiddal · 20/12/2018 09:42

Yay! Well done Hull and well done everyone who drew attention to this issue

DodoPatrol · 20/12/2018 09:48

I think Hull may be back on the Potential Uni list for next year.
