The NHS seems to have made mistakes in this womans care and I do think she should be awarded compensation, however I have serious problems with the NHS being made to pay directly for the exploitation of vulnerable women.

I agree. By all means award compensation and they can spend it as they see fit.
But NHS paying for something which it would not be legal for them to pay for in this country (commercial surrogacy)?
Not on at all.
And a dangerous precedent I think.

UK surrogates have been running a campaign against the commercialisation of UK surrogacy - hashtag #forlovenotmoney. The appetite for commercial surrogacy is from surrogacy lawyers who would profit from a commercial framework. The majority of UK surros want reform to the regulatory framework but NOT to the authorisation of a commercial model.
