Any more suggestions?

Three days, and then nominations needed.

Is there any way to do votes on here?

Thinking ahead we could have an MN FWR pub meet up Awards Event.

And obviously not limited to GC, but this year it is bound to dominate. It feels as if we are fighting for the very definition of Woman.

Ooh great idea. I think nominations and votes might have to be gathered via a thread. Unless there is some way of setting up a poll on MN.

ToeToToe · 16/12/2018 09:55

Someone clever could set up a survey monkey for the vote.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 16/12/2018 09:59

What’s FWR?

Popchyk · 16/12/2018 10:02

Good idea.

Could we have:

Ally of the Year

Needmoresleep · 16/12/2018 10:03

Feminism - Womens Rights

The old name for this board, and the one that shows up as the web address.

YY to Ally of The Year.

I could set up a survey monkey but I imagine the moment TRAs are aware of it, they'd try take it over and skew the results. We could ask for an MN name to be entered anonymously but there'd be no way to verify it was that MNer and not someone just using the name.

'mazing idea!

Gentlygently · 16/12/2018 10:44

Fab idea.

WeRiseUp · 16/12/2018 10:52

What a great idea!

StarsAndWater · 16/12/2018 11:01

if it’s a vote based on previously agreed nominations then that’s less of a concern.

Good point

Candidpeel · 16/12/2018 11:03

Brilliant idea.

Maybe have some international and UK categories? (without making it too complicated but thinking of how they do it in the Oscars)

An "Academic" category

WeRiseUp · 16/12/2018 11:05

Perhaps to sort out nominations we could have separate threads linked to a main thread for discussing them ie- a thread for discussing just print journalist nominations and another for just you tubers linked perhaps to this one. It would make it easier to collate to create a poll.

WeRiseUp · 16/12/2018 11:08

I would like a category for the best/most audacious activist stunt.

heresyandwitchcraft · 17/12/2018 08:14

Yay! Brilliant idea!!! How do we vote?

ShotsFired · 17/12/2018 08:21

Unless you have a full SM account, I think the number of responses may be limited.

Google forms may be more useful, but I think that is linked to your Gmail id.

Needmoresleep · 17/12/2018 08:31

Category suggestions first!

Plus more useful ideas of how to do this. Then we can open for nominations, ideally over Christmas/New Year so that people get a chance to suggst people and explain why. I will probably PM some looking for teckie help.

Has anyone done this before? How many categories would be optional? And how many formal nominations per category. My guess is about eight for the first, and six for the second, which will require a bit of not-particularly-democratic decision making.

In a perfect world there would be so many categories and so many winners. It is surprising how many people: journalists; academics; groups; individuals I want to thank and acknowledge, and assume this applies to others. But it needs to be a lot simpler than that.

Also can someone clever think of a good title. I am guessing MN may decide not to lend their name.

I will get back once I have finished my tax return

I have a good idea for the award itself, which I need to explore, (no not Lils Madigan Christmas cards or Adrian Harrop mugs) but happy to have other suggestions.

Love this idea!

heresyandwitchcraft · 17/12/2018 08:59
Xmas Grin Got ahead of myself! Too exciting. Some other category ideas could be radio programme, outstanding guest appearance on a media platform, fantastic feminist event, and maybe like a MN “thread of the year”?
WeRiseUp · 17/12/2018 09:18

Great stuff. It's also okay for people to be nominated for more than one category imo.

Ereshkigal · 17/12/2018 09:35

Oh yes those are great ideas, Heresy.

heresyandwitchcraft · 17/12/2018 16:45

Also, just like the Academy Awards are the Oscars, maybe can we call the FWR awards the Vipers?
I am picturing a bunch of knitted snake woolly scarves in suffragette colours. Bundled up for the ceremony like a little nest on the stage.

Practical, keeps you warm, and you could put the award name on a little label for the recipient?

Xmas BlushShame I have no clue how to knit.

theOtherPamAyres · 17/12/2018 17:40

It would be an interesting exercise to see whether corporations, public bodies, celebrities and politicians would line up to be sponsors, backers and supporters as quickly as they do to link their brands with Stonewall.

OlennasWimple · 17/12/2018 17:50

Great idea!

We need a Lifetime Achievement award

And maybe a Young Campaigner Award

Plus set some (broad) parameters for the voting criteria?
