Stonewall's view on Trans issues

I'm looking for a bit of information and I thought many of you will know more about this topic than me. I work for a school and help organise the Sex Ed resources. SLT want me to arrange for a session on Trans issues and have suggested Stonewall. I don't know much about their views on this and wondered what your views are about their educational talks.

I am a little wary of how aggressive the pro trans lobby can be and want to try and avoid this if possible.

Since 2015 they have centred trans issues in everything but they don't like to talk about it too much in public - prefer the recorded interview method.

Try TransgenderTrend for materials that balance needs.

Nicknamesalltaken · 11/12/2018 16:48

Agree, Transgender Trend has useful resources which you can download.

I wouldn’t go near Stonewall.

Is there a gender critical LGBT charity left? (I’m trying to think of counter suggestions.)

To fend off the stonewall research, i’d emphasise how controversial stonewall now are inder their new leadership. A counter suggestion would really help, though.

BernardBlacksWineIcelolly · 11/12/2018 17:26

also steer clear of Allsorts Trans Inclusion School Toolkit which states ‘Staff should not disclose information that may reveal a pupil or student’s trans status to others, including parents’.

Thus circumnavigating safeguarding for trans children.

It also states that if a teenage girl is uncomfortable with undressing in front of a boy who identifies as transgender, then she is at fault and should be removed

BernardBlacksWineIcelolly · 11/12/2018 17:27

I think that for guidance which takes the safeguarding and comfort of all children into account, your best bet is the transgender trend schools pack

Schools should be aware that there is gong to be an enquiry into why there is such a massive increase in the numbers of children (especially girls) referred to NHS GIDS due to questioning their gender identity.

Dr Helen Webberley (private gender GP, recommended and promoted by Mermaids Charity and many trans rights groups and individual activists) was found guilty of illegal practice and fined recently.

Questions are being asked about how trans ideology affects chidren and young people.

Schools & SLT should be aware of the issues that are coming to the fore as they have Safeguarding implications.

This speech is a god place to start:
'Professor Michele Moore is an expert in Inclusive Education and Disability Studies. She leads human rights projects across the world to support children, their families and those who work with them. She is the Co-Editor of the ground-breaking book Transgender Children and Young People, Born in Your Own Body from Cambridge Scholars. Michele will be discussing ideas from the book – the implications of self-declaration of gender for children and young people, including disabled children'

Stonewall, stone deaf to women unless they’re the speshul kind.

Thank you for all of your advice and links. I will look through all of these. I will look through the Transgender trends resources too. I am wary of the implications for women and so wanted to try to find a balanced resource. Thanks!

How old are the kids?

RedHoodGirl · 11/12/2018 19:28

You should be aware that the Transgender Trend information is considered to be in breach of the 2010 Equality Act by some. I’d suggest that you might want to check with your senior leadership team or teaching union for recommended and approved materials.

You should be aware that Transgender Trend has been targetted by TRAs repeatedly.

Stephanie Davies Arai, the founder of TGT describes in this video how the toolkit was checked by by Safeguarding leads and lawyers:

for more information see the website:

Katvonblackdeath · 11/12/2018 19:50

And you also should be aware that the transgender trend author was nominated for a prestigious science award. For basing their pack on evidence.

Good luck op. Balance is needed.

Katvonblackdeath · 11/12/2018 19:55

Promotion of sound science and evidence in the face of hostility

Now who could be hostile to Trangender Trend? Hmm???

I'd base my lesson plans on TT materials and get them signed off by your team leader.

Bowlofbabelfish · 11/12/2018 20:00

The TT pack has been scrutinised by legal experts I believe? redhoodgirl so that’s not true.

A few good things to point out to your school:

Both allsorts and mermaids guidance directly contradicts safeguarding/Working Together and this has the potential tonplace children in danger.

It’s legally required for schools to provide separate washing, sanitary and changing areas for different sexes from age 8.

That no one can change sex, and That there is evidence of social contagion in ROGD (rapid onset gender dysphoria.)

Remind them that in the event of a serious case review, it would be disastrous for the school to have been warned of, and ignored, the above issues.

R0wantrees · 11/12/2018 20:05

Now who could be hostile to Trangender Trend? Hmm???

There is a petition to parliament which is intended to be used against TGT using the language of 'conversion therapy' in school resources.
(it was described as being carefully re-worded following the rejection of a previous one)

Fascinating who has promoted it.

Melamin · 11/12/2018 20:32

I have googled and all I can find is a middleaged blogger, someone who divorced a bankrupt millionaire, a barrister and Trinny. Two of them turn out to be the same person - is it she?
