Interesting with recent critique and predictably there's no mention of a Particular Issue talked of a lot round here but a warning on taking progress for granted; notably that "progress towards sexual [not gender] equality should not be taken for granted."

I still read the Guardian - I think Carole Cadwalladr and a few others are voices worth hearing.

I didn't use to click on Daily Mail links as I didn't want to help fund them but realised that a plurality of viewpoints which leads to coverage of different items is valuable (I know this is basic but didn't like the Mail's coverage on a lot of issues so avoided them).

It doesn't make sense to me to be able to overlook some of the Mail's failings and recognise when they report what's going on, and not do the same with the Guardian.

Yes I have thought this too. The Spectator is horrible but has some good gender analysis, the Mail has some interesting bits but is the bloody Daily Mail.

I think we (some people?) hold the guardian to a higher account because it should be more progressive / lefty.

Like Labour are always held to higher moral account than Tories. It's just expected that tories will fuck you / each other / the country over because they're such utter bastards but when Labour do it it feels worse because they're supposed to be on our side.

I’m quite relieved when I read the Spectator to find I still disagree with most of it 😀.

Nah, it’s because most of us are old enough to remember it when it was good.
