Please defend Jenni Murray's reputation

Trans activists have bullied the University of Hull and they are now "reconsidering" their decision to name a lecture theatre after the esteemed BBC Radio 4 Women's Hour broadcaster Jenni Murray.

This is so unfair that a tiny minority are able to trash a woman's reputation and have her contribution to women erased from history. Please politely contact the University of Hull and ask them to reconsider this decision, and not to give in to bullies. Her views are respectful, moderate and reflect mainstream opinion, and she is an inspiration to women.

Looks like my response to the SU daft girl has got me my first Twitter complaint! Feel like I am in good company Smile

We have investigated the reported content and could not identify any violations of the Twitter Rules (support.twitter.com/articles/18311) or applicable law. Accordingly, we have not taken any action at this time.

Sincerely,

Hah! yes I have just checked my emails to find that I was also complained about. Again, twitter found that it did not violate any of their rules

DodoPatrol · 06/12/2018 12:55

Ah.

The petition has rather awful typos in it ('alumini' and 'reticent' instead of, presumably, alumna and reminiscent) - can it be edited or are they fixed?

I like my petitions proofread... but I'll swallow my objections and sign anyway.

i’m recently banned from twitter or i’d @ in the uni and the likes of JHB, Matthew Wright, Jeremy Vine, Vic Derbyshire, Cathy Newman, Pierce Morgan etc - linking this issue with Jenni Murray, Meghan Murphy and Rosa Freeman’s recent experiences

cantgetridofthekids · 06/12/2018 17:07

Can I just say that the trans activists views at play here are not they views of all transgender and transsexual people.

Many transsexual people agree with what has been said and support Jenni.

The student union are holding a meeting on Monday. I will try to work out how to post a link.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 07/12/2018 09:16

I suspect they will want to rename it the Danny La Rue building of stunning bravery.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 07/12/2018 09:17

Are there any students who care or have balls these days? No, just the boys eh?

I just read Jenni's book - the history of Britain in 21 women one. It was very readable and enjoyable actually, even though I'm not a big history buff.

It’s a good book. I’m tempted to send twenty copies to the University of Hull library.

hulluniunion.com/news/article/jenni-murray-union-council

There is a timeline of the issue at th end of the page.
There are contact details, requesting thoughts. They will get mine!
Not sure if non students are permitted at the meeting on Monday.

HumourlessFeminist · 08/12/2018 13:51

grafittiartist, I'm not sure - the article says that they'll forward the email to the relevant person. I suppose I wonder who that is, and what they might do with my details.

The other thing that struck me from the timeline is that the University wanted to open this up to the wider student population, and that the Union opposed this 😄🙄. It's almost like they're scared of what the majority of people think.

welshgendercrit · 08/12/2018 15:28

Of course they are Humourless They think they've got it all sewn up by labelling it a trans-only issue and are not at all sure that the wider student population will see it in that light. Vocal political activists are always a very small minority of the student population, but make a noise out of all proportion to their numbers.
