Facebook protocol

So I would like to follow some people on Facebook to keep up to date with what they are up to, as they are banned from twitter, but they have all removed their 'follow' option. I feel a bit weird asking to friend them, am I misunderstanding the whole Facebook sphere? It seems a bit odd and personal to ask them to be my friend.

I'm in the same boat, I've been muted by people and unfollowed by others. I think the best thing to do is just accept they have their reasons and find other people to follow.

I've sent "friend-requests" to various people/organisations on Facebook and been accepted. My reasoning is that if people have a point of view then it follows that they'd probably want to share them with as many as possible.
