Julia HB Talk Radio this morning on transwomen in prisons

She was talking about this just now on my way to work. The discussion started just after 8.30. A lot of opposition to people with penises in female prisons. It's a good job I was at traffic lights when she threatened to throw someone out of her studio for talking about "cis" women at the end of the debate. I gave her a round of applause for stating that there are transwomen and women and that transactivists don't get to change the language applied to women just because they want to change gender. Men and women are still men and women.

Just listened to the whole segment from the link posted above and another thing is getting on my nerves. Smuggy Steve says how pleased he is everyone is framing what they are saying with a respect for TW and as JHB points out why does everyone have to say this first before they say anything else? Why do we have to do the NATWALT or NAMALT, why do we have to massage these egos when talking about issues which effect women? Fgs just bloody well grow up. Whenever women are criticised I NEVER hear a man say "Woah, NAWALT". Seriously, how did these pathetic, touchy, fragile egos become the class of humans that dominates and effectively rules over everything?

Another very brave lady. Regardless of what anyone thinks of her political leaning, she and the other 600 odd MPs are the ones that need to be onside.

I'm in two minds - obviously cheering at the common sense of it, but JHB is (in my view) terrible on some other issues.

I think a lot of people feel like that, but we have to accept allies where we can find them, while recognising that we are poles apart on almost everything else. The same goes for what Nadine Dorries has just said. Julia was truly splendid here.

This leaves me very conflicted. I am a liberal lefty but find myself aligned with more and more people like JHB and Piers Morgan on this issue. I genuinely question sometimes whether I’m on the right side of the argument and then I read some rubbish about “gender identity” and someone saying that they’re a woman because they like to paint their nails or a man because they preferred wearing their brother’s hand me downs to pink dresses when they were a child and remember what utter nonsense they’re spouting. I agree with these people but for the complete opposite reasons that they state. Says something about what circular idiotic arguments a lot of the TRAs use.

I don’t know much about Julia’s other views but I think this belief that we must only ever agree with the ideological pure is one reason why we’re in such a mess.
And after the way the left hung Linda Bellos and Venice Allan out to dry then quite frankly they can fuck right off.

JHB was magnificent.

This TRA nonsense is a bid to damage the left. We on the left must respond by thinking more critically rather than being tribal. JHB or Piers being right on this doesn't make everything you believe wrong.

I'm a liberal lefty too but agreed with David Cameron & Conservatives when they brought in gay marriage. I think Boris Johnson is a dangerous detestable cheating shitbag but I agree with him about the Heathrow runway. I like real ale, like that absolute cunt Nigel Farage (scraping the barrel a bit here but you get my point).

Go JHB. That was magnificent. When do you ever hear a woman in the media dominate a situation like that ? When when talking about this issue women get talked over by men or the sort of women who are, you know, brave and stunning. (Piers and our friend Munro’s).

Here JHB just is in charge. It’s quite shocking because it so rarely happens.

The most incredible thing is happening. People who would normally be at complete polar opposites are coming together to say, this fanciful, unscientific, misogynistic bullshite has to stop! Woman are women, transwomen are people who want to be women, but are not. Women are not a subset, but simply Females.

Finally had a chance to listen. Wow, what an awesome WOMAN! Loved the no cis here discusdion but I wish it hadn't stopped the transwomen in prision talk. Far too short a segment.

The left have thoroughly disappointed me.

I am well used to knowing I won't agree with everything e eryonr says. Why should I.I agree with some bits, not with other bits. If the left took women seriously maybe things would not have escalated as they did.

That was a brilliant takedown by JHB. Well done. I share her anger and frustration at this top down imposition of unwanted and unnecessary labels.
