Rapist given access to son

From Times front page yesterday.

Rotherham Council have agreed to give a rapist access to the son of one of his victims.

She was 15 at the time and part of the grooming scandal. He has not got any parental responsibility. He's not mentioned on the birth certificate but the local authority have taken it upon themselves to contact this man with a view to arrange visits.

Honestly, who at the council, thinks this is in any way in the best interests of the child or his mother?

I do wonder about people involved in these council departments.

There is an article on the bbc website with an interview with the mother. It says the father has not even requested access to his child but still someone else thought it would be a good idea. Absolute madnesss.

I couldn't actually imagine Rotherham social services could shit on that poor woman any more than it already has but clearly I hadn't given them enough credit

This is awful! What the hell is going on in this country? This brave young woman has been to hell & back and the authorities are failing her and her child again

She is so brave
Then Sarah champion labour mp for Rotherham came on to say this could stop today if the government made clear guidelines to councils
Sarah said that she is finding it difficult to contact MOJ
VD said MOJ sopkeperson is coming on today so VD going to ask her then
Sammy said her case is not the only one where women have been forced to give access to their children by family courts
She said it is happening up and down the country

Once again, the “rights” of a “father” are more important than the rights of mothers and children. I’m so, so fucking sick of this

Does anyone know if there is a petition going, or if there is anything that the public can do to help?

He is a rapist of a CHILD.

Do rapists have actual rights to see a child born of their crime? In which case we all need to write to our MPs now.

Or is this inhumane insanity by a social worker?

And yes, the damage has already been done: the threat that it might have happened, the feeling that his rights are greater than hers, that her parenthood is as much violated as her body....

I've met professionals in this mindset. It's so right on and modern and important to not be prejudiced and to accept people as they are, it's almost a competition to prove how open minded/ not prejudiced against men/criminals/any other group than the norm that rational boundaries have just been swept away by training and action taken 'getting ahead of' implications in reports and messages from the family courts. The road to hell truly is paved with good intentions.

All of this is comes down to losing any boundaries and the ability to say no to people, retaining a clear message on right and wrong coming over personal freedoms, and from local authority level downwards, an ability to stand up to tantrums of the difficult, vexatious and frequently personality disordered when refused. It comes up over and over in serious case reviews and nothing changes.

So angry. How can they do this to her and to her child? He is a literal child rapist. In what kind of world should he have access to a child ever again? Let alone the trauma for Sammy. She is incredible, but should never have to face this.

Also (again): what the hell is going on in South Yorkshire?? The authorities seem to disregard women and children across the board.

He wasn't 'given access'
He was written to to ask if he wanted to be party to care proceedings. That is the law as it stands - the court has to give agreement to known birth parents not being contacted. As the family courts are private, we don't know whether this was asked for and denied or not.

Councils don't have the power to offer contact to anyone. Only courts can order a child to have contact with someone if the resident parent doesn't agree.

Not that I'm defending this but the law is the law and we don't know the facts.
