Threewheeler1 · 26/11/2018 10:44

I absolutely bloody love Rosa.
So calm, clear, logical, knowledgeable.
What a woman.

BoreOfWhabylon · 26/11/2018 10:45

Fabulous! Well done Rosa and well done Jane!

CuriousaboutSamphire · 26/11/2018 10:45

Ooh! Maybe Alex did Rosa a favour! Whole sentences, whole thought processes!

Rosa was brilliant and very clear

littlbrowndog · 26/11/2018 10:45

That Alex was just crap and afraid to debate with an intelligent woman

R0wantrees · 26/11/2018 10:45

Brilliant interview Rosa. Star & thank you

Hopefully someone will transcribe both parts.

Budgieinaberet · 26/11/2018 10:46

Jane and Rosa Gin Flowers

hipsterfun · 26/11/2018 10:46

Professor Alex Sharpe? Professor?!

Nothing has meaning any more, does it? Sad

Budgieinaberet · 26/11/2018 10:46

Actually I want to thank Alex, for peaking a few more people Grin

CuriousaboutSamphire · 26/11/2018 10:47

Ah well, now back to the ironing Smile

arranfan · 26/11/2018 10:47

As AnyaBike says:

On Woman’s Hour now, AlexSharpe64 and GoonerProf, separately, because Alex, a human rights barrister apparently, is not prepared to debate this issue with anyone holding a different view.

Well done Rosa. Got a lot of points across in plain English. Alex used so much jargon it was hard to tell what she was saying and when she did explain it still made no sense!

LikeDust · 26/11/2018 10:48

That was hard to follow. It was very rude and controlling for Alex to refuse to answer a question and decide what to speak about. So disrespectful to the host.

Melamin · 26/11/2018 10:48

Well, Rosa cleared a lot up for me and I thought I knew what was what Grin

Brilliant. Needs to be a transcript too!!

littlbrowndog · 26/11/2018 10:49

You know Jane linked it to the previous bit about violence to women and girls the 86000 that were killed in 2017 to the fears that we might have
But Alex never even gives that a thought that we might be afraid of male bodied ppl as Rosa said
Alex didn’t seem to give a fuck

HollowTalk · 26/11/2018 10:51

The difference in those two speakers was so profound. Alex sounded like a confused sixth former - no wonder they didn't want to debate with a professor in public.

R0wantrees · 26/11/2018 10:51

@kesstrel Might you consider editing the title of the thread please to include that it features interviews with Professor Alex Sharpe and Professor Rosa Freedman as part of 'Sex & Gender' series?

THis series on Woman's Hour is really important & with things moving quickly, it would enable more people to find the thread.

MN have been happy to do this before in similar circumstances.
You can report the OP and request an edit there.

NannyMcWhatThe · 26/11/2018 10:52

Great job, Rosa - calm, clear, reasonable, logical. Excellent from Jane too, I thought, esp the audible exasperation with “cis”.

Melamin · 26/11/2018 10:52

Alex didn’t seem to give a fuck

I don't think their view of the world is very wide TBH

HollowTalk · 26/11/2018 10:52

Hang on... Alex Sharpe is a professor????????????????????????????

Threewheeler1 · 26/11/2018 10:53

I wonder if this new 'I'm not talking to the other side' tactic from TRAs will continue?
Makes them look like such petulant, demanding dicks.
Should we assume that they aren't actually able to convincingly stand by anything they say when it's put under scrutiny by an intelligent woman? Cos that's how I interpret their refusal to engage and I reckon most radio listeners new to the topic and blessed with common sense might do to.

TeenTimesTwo · 26/11/2018 10:53

Maybe they're not allowed to, but I wish in these debates they would name check people like Pips Bunce. As in 'listeners might like to google people such as Pips Bunce to see who Stonewall and others think should have access to women's only spaces'.

The debate still sounds a bit highbrow to me.

They really need to give tangible examples people can relate to e.g. being searched by a male bodied police officer who identifies as female on occasional days (I think I have read about one of these?)

I do think the sport one will make things seem real, but again they need to point people to names/pictures so the message hits home.

hipsterfun · 26/11/2018 10:53

Alex Sharpe is a Law Professor at Keele University (2004 – present).
