Feeling foolish

I believe a lot in standing up for women’s and girls rights. I was fortunate with the consultation that I could read what was bring done from a reputable source. However, I am afraid of reading what TRAs are saying themselves as if its as full of hatred as is suggested I think my mental health may be affected.

I don’t know what anyone can do for me, but I just wanted to say something as I feel pretty alone.

Sorry I don’t understand. Are you on Twitter and seeing the teensy minority of absolute nut-bags in there?

sackrifice · 25/11/2018 09:27

I don't understand either.

Can you expand?

My reading is that the op is pro feminist but the threats and nastiness seen on social media and other outlets (I’m looking at you Guardian) is freaking them out and getting them anxious.

The loudest voices on that side of the fence are the most aggressive and violent. They are an eentsy minority that even most of their fawning fans don’t believe. Like school bullies who seem popular but aren’t really.

I wrote to my MP stating my concerns about the proposed changes to the GRA and he has finally responded with a ‘ooh, poor trans people’ letter. I want to write to him and say that he is not thinking about women’s needs and concerns. But I am a little worried that not being in the tweetsphere I may not be a good person to say this.

You have every right to contact your MP and voice your concerns about your rights. You don't have to be on Twitter to do that so don't over think it.

The Equality Act stats that 'sex' is a protected characteristic. It means 'biological sex'; that is the only definition.
Safeguarding is important and needs to be considered in every situation as a priority. The case of convicted rapist Karen White shows that the system puts the desires of trans people ahead of safeguarding.

HollowTalk · 25/11/2018 14:31

It also shows that the system puts the desires of men over the safety of women.

Thank you everyone. I think I feel a bit stronger to respond.
