LassWiADelicateAir · 25/11/2018 00:42

Should using a prostitute be a criminal offence?

I don't know how share tokens work but I'm sure someone more clever than me will work it out.(and make it clicky- sorry)

Currently 42% yes to 58% no.

It is on the back of this article.

And obviously I voted yes.

I would vote yes too but I've used up my free articles this week

scepticalwoman · 25/11/2018 00:59

They'v also got 4 articles about children, schools and trans groups today as well as a good piece about girls and abusive relationships. I'll be buying a copy in the morning.

Only 39% in that poll think that it should be a criminal offence to 'use a prostitute', so far.

BernardBlacksWineIcelolly · 25/11/2018 08:37

oh god that' depressing. now it's 29% that think using a prostitute should be a criminal offence. fucks sake

some people really don't think it through do they?

RepealTheGRA · 25/11/2018 08:50

Just voted. 70% now thinking paying to rape someone should be legal, how deeply depressing Sad

FermatsTheorem · 25/11/2018 14:01

Just voted. Now up to 71% thinking it's okay to pay to rape.

Of course these polls are funny beasts - from 42-58 first thing after midnight when Lass started this thread to 29-71 in the space of just over 12 hours. Is it that more people means more representative results, or more time means more of a chance of sites like AdultWork to alert their users to come and spam an online poll? It would be good to see a proper poll conducted.

Having said that, it can be very depressing to see how many people are of the "well, it's a private transaction" frame of mind. One of my oldest friends was like this when I raised the issue of Amnesty's change in policy with her (glad to say her DH was on my side).

LangCleg · 25/11/2018 14:17

It would be good to see a proper poll conducted.

I would like to see such.

Barracker · 25/11/2018 17:43

FermatsTheorem it's probably multiple voting via incognito browsers.

Anyone can vote dozens of times if they know how, it's really simple.

I'd imagine many men have quite the vested interest in not criminalising their own activities.

FermatsTheorem · 25/11/2018 17:46

That is indeed my suspicion, Barracker.

LassWiADelicateAir · 25/11/2018 20:41

I'm not sure if you can use multiple voting on Times polls. You have to be a subscriber and log in.

I voted and I'm neither. Used the above share.

NotZenEnough · 25/11/2018 20:50

Well this is predictable. 38% yes 62% no

Sunday Times Opinion Poll on prostitution
FermatsTheorem · 25/11/2018 20:53

Looks like the numbers have bounced back a bit from a low of 29%. Sadly the figures don't surprise me - it's the success of the "happy hooker, who am I to dictate how a woman chooses to earn a living" propaganda

Barracker · 25/11/2018 21:21

You can Lass.

I'd post the method but am loathe to have the accusation levelled that mumsnetters are busy gaming the polls, despite knowing that this is what goes on elsewhere.

NotTerfNorCis · 25/11/2018 21:39

40/60 now.

2rebecca · 25/11/2018 22:39

It's really hard to do the poll on the phone Times app. The article tells you about the poll but it isn't clicks and I couldn't find it in the online paper then by putting in the url found an article on the poll and comments but no actual boxes to tick. Finally managed to do it via clicky "poll" link above. Surprised anyone finds these polls

OlennasWimple · 25/11/2018 22:49

41/59 now

ErrolTheDragon · 25/11/2018 22:51

They'v also got 4 articles about children, schools and trans groups today as well as a good piece about girls and abusive relationships. I'll be buying a copy in the morning.

And one on Chopes blocking an FGM bill, and one on a sinister-sounding conjunction of antisemitism and antifeminism - links in here:

LassWiADelicateAir · 25/11/2018 22:52

I agree. On a phone you have to constantly request desktop site. If you have the Times app it is impossible to keep it on desktop. I ended up deleting the app and eventually was able to get to the poll on "desktop" version of the site.

Glad to see the numbers are improving slightly. I agree that the Brooke Magnanti /Belle de Jour scenario will probably play out well with some Times readers.

OP posts:
ErrolTheDragon · 25/11/2018 22:52

Sorry, meant to say thanks for the heads up on the poll Lass - I hadn't found that.

Spottycake · 25/11/2018 22:57

I have to say I found the wording confusing. I had to read it a couple of times to work out what was actually being asked. Surely a proportion of the people voting had no idea what they were voting about.
