NB the facebook post did also have this comment: "Not all marches are feminist led, so have a look at the events page of any one you are interested in. But many are to raise awareness and support for local rape crisis centres."

I seem to have done the link wrong (I am a newbie) so will try again.

I was really interested, years since I went on a Reclaim the Night - but no.

There isn't one near me, but I looked at the Brighton one and it says:

All genders welcome. This is a sex-worker inclusive event, and we actively advocate for the decriminalisation of sex work. Given the chequered history of Reclaim the Night elsewhere in the country, we consider this vital to state clearly, and to do all we can to challenge the worrying rise of so-called radical feminism (that seems in fact rooted in very conservative politics).

Conservative politics? They can get fucked, seriously.

Sounds like handmaid central. Are they all like that?

everybodypuuuuulllll · 23/11/2018 00:19

Brighton is woke central though, so hopefully that's just Brighton?

stumbledin · 23/11/2018 00:41

I think Brighton is really the most obsessively queer politics.

But on the other hand it is supporting the local Rape Crisis Centre.

Some of the Student Union ones (haven't read them all) are also very Queerist, ie trans and sex worker rights.

Its all quite strange really, with some being organised by local councils.

But many have stalls and information exchange and raise money.

I suppose for Rape Crisis centres who survive on one short term grant after another, and the telephone being all volunteer they need every opportunity to get financial support.

And of course ideally any RtN will maybe attract women who haven't previously felt part of any woman centred action.

(Scotland looks very active. Are too many of us becoming armchair feminists?)

I think it might be a question of choosing your location carefully. My DD is going to one as part of the contingent from her university, so I would expect that to be much like the Brighton version.
